Title: What sonic character would you want back?
Description: Who would you have back?

tinmanti - June 2, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
Heyo, this is TinmanTI.
Just gonna ask you lot what character would you have back from previous sonic games if you could have any of them back? I would have the tails doll back. I just love that little guy! If there's anyone I've forgot don't be afraid to post in and tell me.
P.S. I meant super knuckles, not hyper knuckles. Sorry.

GoldenSama - June 2, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
Fang... there's a lot of potential in that character.

They got rid of Fang because of the gun thing... but Shadow used guns, so now maybe Fang can come back. :3

tinmanti - June 2, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
Yer, I see what you mean. Fang was a brilliant character and it would be great to have him back. I wonder how sega and sonic team would use him in the modern sonic games?

GoldenSama - June 2, 2007 10:37 PM (GMT)
Well... he's a bounty hunter, isn't he?

Eggman could put out a bounty on Sonic and Fang could go after him to collect the reward.

I'd also like to see Mighty make a comeback.

tinmanti - June 2, 2007 10:47 PM (GMT)
Hmm... that could make a pretty cool story. 'TinmanTI thinks to himself'
Anyways, mighty was pretty cool. He was my favorite of the chaotix (but sonic team went and took him out of it <_< ). Oh well, :curse: happens...

Dark Phazon - June 2, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
Fang/Nack/whatever you want to call him would be nice to see in a new Sonic game... As long as it wouldn't make for any more shooting levels...

Though right now, I'm trying to find what the appeal of a filler character of a racing game, who doesn't have any "anything" behind it (personality, history, life), is? I don't get it...

GoldenSama - June 2, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
Mighty was awesome! I never played Chaotix, but I like that character none the less. XD

He should be back...

EDIT: You mean Jet and them all? Yeah... I don't get it. But... I guess people like making up their own backstories for them.

Dark Phazon - June 2, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
Actually, Tails Doll. All I know about it is that:

It's supposed to look like a doll version of Tails.

It was in Sonic R

It floats.

It was supposedly made by Robotnik.

...

I see what you mean, though, about back stories. Though for the doll, actually being a character in a new game would just be, confusing and strange... A cameo like the "Mecha Sonic" from that one area in Sonic Adventure would be an interesting easter egg, though...

GoldenSama - June 2, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
Well... if they re-introduced Tails Doll... either as a sadistic killing machine (XD The web-joke) or more seriously as a new Robotnik creation... it might work.

I didn't know Tails Doll was from a racing game. o.O

Clown Prince of Crime - June 3, 2007 05:32 AM (GMT)
I fixed some of the names in the poll... though, technically, Hyper Knuckles is more correct than Super Knuckles, so I left that the same. :p

Anywho, ya... Tails Doll's first and ONLY appearance is in Sonic R. What's the appeal? Look at it! It... it stares into your soul... then EATS it!! Tails Doll is, hands down, Robotnik's most evil creation to date. After Sonic R you never see it again because Robotnik probably had to seal it away... it was too dangerous to have around even for him!

tinmanti - June 3, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
Thanks for changing the mistakes I made. I didn't ever realise that it was actually hyper knuckles. It's been such a long time since I played that game :heh:
Anyways, if they were to use the tails doll in a new story it could be something to do with him escaping from wherever he's been kept all this time and trying to seek out revenge on everyone from those past events (i.e. everyone from the sonic R game). Sonic team could make him seem kinda spooky but not to bad otherwise they may have to rase the age limit.
As for the subject on characters having no back story, I agree with you for most characters like the ones from sonic riders, but having no back story for the tails doll adds mistery to the character. Thats what makes him seem so... freaky.

Avenger29 - June 3, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
I think I know who voted for Metal... *COUGHSPORKCOUGH*

I voted for HyperSonic. I doubt it'd ever happen, but I'd love to see it happen somehow.

Actually, if they were to ever let people play as Super in the normal levels, they could use Hyper for the final story level.

Clown Prince of Crime - June 4, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
Actually, that was me. XD You could choose more than one, so ya... XD

As for Hyper mode... I don't think we'll ever see it again. For starters, at least as far as SegaSonic goes, I don't think it's even canon (and that also goes for Turbo Tails). In fact, from all the research I've done on the subject in the past, it seems that the Super Emeralds themselves aren't canon in SegaSonic.

Now, I think their inclusion was mostly so that you'd have more to do in Sonic&Knuckles. As far as I can figure, there is and always has been onl 7 Chaos Emeralds (in Sonic 1 there was 6 because they didn't know about the 7th, but even going as far back as Tikal's time there was 7 Chaos Emeralds).

Turbo Tails and Hyper Knuckles aren't real, they're just added in so that players get some sort of bonus when collecting all the emeralds with Tails or Knuckles. As for Hyper Sonic... Hyper Sonic is actually closer to what Super Sonic is really like. As far as I can figure, in SegaSonic canon, Super Sonic isn't just a powered up Sonic... he's nearly unstoppable.

I'm sooo tired right now... so I can't really dig up all the research I've done before on this subject. But trust me when I say this... I'm 99% sure that Hyper Sonic isn't canon to SegaSonic. Therefor, it's VERY unlikely we'll ever see him return in a game. As for Tails or Knuckles... it's been strongly hinted at that only Sonic and Shadow are capable of these transformations caused by the Chaos Emeralds. I have no idea about Silver, since I haven't been able to really play that game much, but ya...

ANYWHO... yes... we need more older characters to come back. I like new characters, too, but I think lately Sega's been getting carried away with that. It seems pretty much EVERY new game adds at least one new character.

tinmanti - June 4, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
Yer, I agree. They need to stop making new characters for every new game and start focussing more around the current and old characters in the game.
I'm not saying they should never make a new character for the games, I'm just saying it should be more of a rarity rather than being so common.
Hang on. I thought that the Master Emerald could also give an amazing amount of power as well as the chaos emeralds (if I can remember correctly from the Knuckles vs. Super Metal battle of Sonic 3 + Knuckles). Couldn't sonic combine the power of the chaos emeralds and the master emeralds to make him hyper?

Clown Prince of Crime - June 4, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
The Master Emerald is quite powerful, and Robotnik wanted to use it to give his Death Egg perpetual power. This is why Mecha Sonic (Metal Sonic is a different robot) could use the Master Emerald to give himself a power boost. However, even though it seemed that the Master Emerald could be used to give machines more power, it doesn't have any effect on Sonic.

The Master Emerald is not like the 7 Chaos Emeralds. And, though Robotnik figured out a way to use its power for his machines, it actually only really has 2 purposes:

1) To control the Chaos Emeralds. The Master Emerald can even make the Chaos Emeralds cease to function, however only Knuckles (or Tikal) knows how to do this.

2) To keep Angel Island suspended in the sky.

tinmanti - June 4, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
So the master emerald doesn't have any effect on sonic. Damn.
I take it there's no other way that so could get that amount of power like what the choas emeralds give him. That's a shame. I could have been fun using hyper sonic again. At least they haven't gone and taken super sonic out of the picture. That would be very annoying.
Anyways, aparently sonic team aren't gonna be releasing any new sonic games (after sonic vs mario: Olipics and Sonic Rush Adventure) so that they can re-thinking the whole sonic formula. That could mean that they may go back to old roots and bring back some of the classic sonic characters. That would rock.

Clown Prince of Crime - June 5, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
Personally, I'd love to see 3-D remakes of the original Genesis games (and Sonic CD). That would rock, but... it aint' ever gonna happen. :hs:

tinmanti - June 5, 2007 06:40 PM (GMT)
Yer, that's a shame it won't ever happen. It would have been good fun. Oh well, maybe someone would do a fan game of it some day. I would but i'm no good at programming. It just confuses me :heh:
BTW, I was just wondering if anyone knew if sonic team was actually planning on bringing any of these back (or if there's a chance of any coming back). Seeing as we're on the subject of who is most wanted back, we may as well find out know is most likely as well.

Clown Prince of Crime - June 5, 2007 06:57 PM (GMT)
From what I've seen on the web, the 2 most wanted comebacks are Fang the Sniper and Mighty the Armadillo. However, I doubt either of them will come back, truthfully. The only reason that the Chaotix and Metal Sonic even made a comeback in Sonic Heroes was because of influence from Sega of America, I believe. Don't quote me on that one, though.

tinmanti - June 5, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
I'm not really surprised that those two are the most wanted back as they were in the spotlight the most. It's a shame that they probably won't come back. Oh well, we can always hope.

GoldenSama - June 5, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
It could happen. They keep making new characters, someone might eventually decide: "Hmm... instead of making another new character, let's use an old one!"

AGodofIrony - June 5, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
We could vote for more then one? Curses!

Yah, I voted for Metal Sonic. Which I think is in 'Sonic Rivals' for the PSP...I need money...

Yah, bringing back to old characters would be awesome. Though, with more and more characters, the Sonic cast becomes bigger, and more interesting and more choices for theories and things.

tinmanti - June 6, 2007 06:47 AM (GMT)
Ya, I agree with you that the more characters they have, the more opotunities are opened up, but still, Sega and Sonic team have been going a bit OTT with all the new characters. Plus, i reckon that not many of the new characters really compare to the classics (except, Shadow, Rouge and Cream. They rock).

DBOZGT - June 26, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
If I had A choice well lately I Haven't seen this character.
