A giant creature covered in fluffy white fur was sleeping in the midst of a small campsite. Many makeshift houses had been created from stone and several tents also stood in the middle of the field. This was just one of several Refugee Camps that had been created since the fall of Ba Sing Sei.
With Azula of the Fire Nation now in control of the Earth Kingdom's greatest city, many small towns had been "hopping" around. Hopper Towns, as they were called, were small cities full of the Earth Kingdom refugees who would find a safe place, build a temporary city using houses made from Earthbending (or tents for the non-bender families).
The cities only stayed in the same place for a few days before the houses would be turned back into dirt, the tents taken down and everybody would move on to someplace new.
It had to be that way, lest the Fire Nation find them.
In this Hopper Town, however, the flying bison signaled a very special guest. The Avatar. The champion of the people; the hero who would save them from this fate.
Though, Aang didn't feel very heroic at the moment.
He was sitting cross-legged on a rock just outside of the town. The wind blew over his head and he kept his eyes shut. Aang was thinking. Thinking about the way he had failed to defeat Azula and Zuko. Thinking about how so many people had become prisoners and so many others had fled because he could not stop two overzealous benders.
Sometimes being The Avatar was hard work.
