Title: Wii Emulation
Description: Is it possible? I think so...
Avenger29 - July 25, 2007 12:23 PM (GMT)
Yes, I honestly do believe Wii emulation is possible sometime in the future.
"But 'Venger! The Wii is a highly complex unit that uses a different type of control than other games! Are you mad?!?"
Nope, mi amigos. How would this breathtaking feat be accomplished?
Look no further than the device to your right.
Thats right. The mouse.
The mouse could substitute for the Wiimote, while the left and right buttons could be used to simulate the "1" and "2" buttons.
What do you guys think? Am I onto something? Or am I just insane?

But what if there are people on laptops right now? Or are left-handed and have the mouse on their left?????
Though yeah, a mouse possibly could be used like that in case of an emulator ever being made out of that system. Though I'm not all that interested in emulation (especially of systems still officially being sold new by companies), so I don't really know any specifics about how these things work to give an educated answer on this.

Ya, a mouse probably could be used that way (much like how it can be used like a Zapper or a Super Scope on NES and SNES emulators, respectively), however it definitely wouldn't have the same feel, I can guarantee that.
Besides that, like DP said, it's still way too early to be thinking about Wii emulation. Nintendo is still profiting off of the Wii, afterall.

Profiting off of it except when they're being hit with BS lawsuits about some little strap thingy.
Thats not even Nintendo's fault either! Thats the clumsy player's fault!

Ya, I've heard about that... I have to wonder what a person has to be doing to hurt themselves with the Wiimote. It doesn't matter, though, because it's stupid to sue Nintendo for their own idiocy.
I'm half-expecting someone to sue Nintendo for making Twilight Princess too challenging; claiming emotional distress for not being able to beat a game and getting a wounded ego.

Well there a lot of dume people out there. People like to break there own TV so they can Sue Nintendo so they can get more money then how much they paid for there TV.
The person who though a Wii Mote to the TV Must be junkie TV.
That's why on any Game & When you turn on your system it says read the safety first & put your stap on your wist.

The mouse would not work. Why? Your mouse moves in two dimensions. Some games, such as Metroid Prime 3, requires three dimensional movement.
The 2D cursor movement about the screen would be easy enough to emulate. The problem comes where you need to provide depth (pulling switches out, then pushing them back in for MP3).
Then there's the fact that the Wiimote is more than just a pointer. It has an accelerometer inside, though that could probably be replicated by changing "shake" to be picked up by the cursor going back and forth rather than an actual shake, that's stretching it.
You also would have quite a time doing anything that required you to rotate the Wiimote. The tilt sensor and all.
The Wii could be emulated. It just wouldn't play like the Wii anymore, at all. Instead, things like "shake", "tilt", "push in/out" would all have to be assigned to the keyboard, rather than a function of the mouse. Pretty much only the 2D cursor can be done by the mouse.

Before, with the statements I've said, I had yet to own a Wii for myself... but I own a Wii now. So, having a LOT more experience with a Wii, I must completely agree with Baine on this one and retract my comments from before. The Wiimote is actually a lot more complex than what can be done with a mouse.

I can use my wiimote as a mouse on my laptop... all you need is this program and two IR sources.
The Wii's "sensor bar" is actually just two InfraRed lights, or IR sources. The wiimote's internal camera sees these lights and sends its data to the wii, which analyzes the position data.
So my computer communicates with the wiimote through Bluetooth-- yes, the wiimote is set up for that-- and
Remote Buddy, available for Mac. All the wiimote needs is an IR source or two. Candles will work.
I have a Wii, and a slow computer, so I haven't looked for wiimulators, but they are definitely possible, and probably on the way.
...Of course, they would require, by my reckoning...
-A wiimote, $40
-A bluetooth-compatible computer
-Remote Buddy ($20) or the microsoft equivalent, if there is one
-IR source(s): either a candle, an actual Wii "Sensor Bar," or some kind of makeshift IR light

I just talk with someone from work she said she hates the wii? The 'reason why she doesn't like it because she doesn't like the controlls well it takes a while to get used to it. I got the system at the time because it had Metal Slug Collection.
PS: Wii Emulator well I think better to own the actal system.
