Title: Castlevania

"If you wanna see the REAL vampire, then look in the mirror!"

"I can't! I'm a vampire!"

So, anybody else played any Castlevania games? Ever since I drew this picture, I've been really getting into the series. Sure, the games are hard as heck, but they're just so darn fun! And, of course, Castlevania has some of the BEST music I've ever heard in video games.

So, ya... please tell me I'm not the only one here that's played a Castlevania game. :heh:

Only one I ever owned. I've played a few others... and I've really, really wanted to try the one on N64.

They're pretty good games. Remind me of Metroid, but with Vampires.

Hmm...that sounds pretty good. I maybe ought to check them out sometime.

Castlevania music really is quite awesome (especially when goat is remixing it).

Symphony of the Night is supposed to be among the best Castlevania games.

I know that the recent ones are supposed to have been made on similar engines (especially relating to the maps) to the 2D Metroid games (like Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Zero Mission)

That all said, I've never played a Castlevania game, though the GBA and DS ones have been of interest to me to try...

Hmmm... I actually haven't ever played Symphony of the Night, but I hear it's pretty good since there's a lot of people out there that claim it as their most favorite Castlevania game. I also find it interesting that you play as Alucard. It's good to see Alucard this way (the way he looks on that cover you posted) as opposed to my traumatizing childhood memories of seeing that skateboarding, surfer-talking teenage vampire calling himself Alucard on Captain N. But, ya, I'd really like to try this game out, myself. Of course, I don't think it's a very easy game to find.

As for Castlevania games that I own... I actually don't own many. I have all three NES Castlevania games and Portrait of Ruin for Nintendo DS... that's it. Well, I also own Super Castlevania IV, but... not the actual SNES cartridge. I bought a download of the game for the Wii Virtual Console (there's a few Castlevania games available for Virtual Console). Hopefully the N64 one will be released on Virtual Console, as well, as it's one I've wanted to check out, too.

Indeed they are. If you have a Nintendo DS, I recommend you search for Portrait of Ruin. It's one I'm currently playing and it's awesome! But, ya, a warning about Castlevania games: They're pretty challenging.

Anywho, one thing that really fascinates me about these games is their use of monsters. There's such a wide variety of different monsters ranging from fairy tale monsters to mythological monsters to monsters from old movies. Also it's really cool how the Bram Stoker Dracula novel is established as canon to the Castlevania storyline. The Morris family is actually said to be descendants of the Belmonts.

I agree! I think goat's Castlevania remixes are top notch! Like the awesome medley that is "Creeping Dusk" (awesome, though I realize the near 18 minute length might turn some people off) or the awesome Wicked Child remix "The Raven". My favorite of his Castlevania remixes, though, has to be "No Flesh Allowed". That one's just pure brilliance. I think AmIEviL is pretty good, too, though, as he did my favorite Castlevania remix, "Castlemania".

I love a lot of things about Castlevania, but honestly, above everything else, I gotta say the music is what I love best. I'd like to take this opportunity to show examples of some of the great music from these games.

For me, Scale the Machine, Stained Glass Filth, and Pools of Rust are my favs from goat (I really like the style of goats mixes from around when he made those last two, and Vampire Killer is easlily my favorite CV theme). But if I had to choose Castlevania mixes I like more than any others, I'd have to choose between Danneman & Silverknekt's Vampire Spanker, Digimatic's Simon's Town, or Daniel Baranowsky/SysteManiac's Belmont Lounge.
