(3) Digimon. Also awesome, and I have fond memories of this show.
(4) Bleach. Another really good anime, I got hooked on this via the manga.
(5) Dragonball Z. Action, fighting, and giant, flashing lights. What else could a guy ask for? Also one of my first animes.

6. What genre of film do you prefer?

Comedy, I think. Though I’m up for pretty much anything.

7. Do you think that combining 2D and 3D animation works well? Please give a reason.

If done in the right context, then yes, it can. Of course, I’m not sure I can think of any examples of this, good or bad…

5. Please state 5 anime's that you have seen and most enjoyed and explain why

(1) YuYu Hakusho - I think I read somewhere that originally, the company the YuYu Hakusho manga (which is what this anime series was based from) was being produced for could not make up it's mind whether to make it a romantic series, a comedy series, an action series, and asked the head writer to focus on each each style at various points. It makes sense, even if that actually wasn't true, as this series has a great combination off all three elements: great action, it doesn't always take itself too seriously (especially relating to Kuwabara), and though never overbearing, the Yusuke and Keiko relationship does develop nicely throughout the whole series.

(2) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - The humor of this program is exceptional, and the presentation (taking the story and jumbling it up, yet still making it all fit together well, and ending the 14 episode series with the climax, even though chronologically that 14th episode was actually only the 6th) is even greater. The characters and situations, though commonly way-out-of-the-ordinary, tend to have an ordinary sort of feel to them (such as making a really crappy, badly produced, high school movie as a project; or going out playing baseball). Overall, it is just unique, fresh, and different.

(3) Black Cat - In a great contrast to YYH (which is over 110 episodes long), this series is only 24 episodes long, yet also is based off of a long-running manga series. What I really like about this one is mostly based off of its artful presentation. Overall, it's just really pretty to watch through this series, especially at its main climactic part when Train faced off against Creed (episode 20 "The Cat's Showdown" , or episode 19 of the original Japanese airing), where much of that episode was blaring classical-style music and flashing scenes back and forth... Also, even though I'd love a full adaptation of the manga, the condensed story used in this anime series worked really well, and never had any slow points.

(4) Lunar Legend Tsukihime - Speaking of a short adaptation of something that had a lot of source material... The key point that I think coming out of this series is how drawn into the characters I became. By the end, I was really sad for Arcueid, as well as Shiki (and even Satsuki, who was a minor character, yet still was able to generate some attachment to me, at least in the case of what happened in the end of the series)...

(5) Busou Renkin - For the most part, much of why I like this series is similar to why I liked YYH, but in a more compact package. So look at the YYH commentary for most of why I like this series. But another point of this series that I enjoyed was how the main character almost never seemed to be the "obviously stronger than the other characters" sort of guy, as he actually seemed to be the weakest, from the start, and had to work hard to get better (yet still wasn't as good as most of the other people in the series).

For all of these, another key point I'd like to make is that the main characters are likeable to myself in all of these anime programs.

6. What genre of film do you prefer?
I'm not actually much of a movie sort-of person, but usually the movies I enjoy are either of the Action or Comedy genres.

7. Do you think that combining 2D and 3D animation works well? Please give a reason.

- Depending on how it's implemented, combining 2D and 3D could be quite effective. Animation that deals with giant robots facing off against each-other in some form (like, say, anything Gundam-related) could work well with robot battles in 3D, while the general animation of characters stays 2D. This would work well because of the high detail that could easily be implemented in the 3D robot models used, and its 3D-ness wouldn't clash too much with the rest of the 2D animation as the robots (due to their size) wouldn't normally interact all too much with the 2D characters in such a way that would make them look bad on the same screen together

8. What type of music would you think would go well for a fast paced opening to a post-nuclear style film?
Techno [ ]
Heavy metal [ ]
Epic style classical [ x] (comment: I'm assuming this question means an animated movie, not an anime series whose openings are generally cut to just a minute and a half and try to showcase most all the characters of the program)
Rock music [ ]
Blues or Jazz [ ]
Electronica [ ]
Alternative [ ]
Something else [ ]

Would you think it was better if it was;
Fast paced [ ]
Slow paced [ ]
A mix of both [ x] (comment: I'd say, if the opening is to show this post-nuclear/post-apocalyptic world, classical stuff that starts slow, and works its way faster as the introduction continues along to show the more and more important scenes of this world, would work well)

9. How do you watch you anime?
DVD [ x]
VHS [ ]
Internet downloads [ x] (comment: generally starts with this, either downloading literally or watching off of youtube; if I thoroughly enjoy the series, I likely will buy DVDs of the series once they are released in English; some anime programs I start watching on the television, however, but the cycle's the same in if I like it a lot, I'll likely get the DVDs)
TV [x ]
Cinema [ ] (comment: in the US, almost nobody ever puts anime movies into movie theatres... )

(1) Naruto: NINJAS.
(2) FullMetal Alchemist: Really deep. And totally trippy, man.
(3) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Kyon is possibly the greatest narrator of anything ever. Very sarcastic.
(4) FLCL: Amazing fight scenes and overall whacky plot.
(5) BLEACH: Kubo's story-telling style really gets you into the characters.

6. What genre of film do you prefer?
Animated

7. Do you think that combining 2D and 3D animation works well? Please give a reason.
Walt Disney Productions has done it many times, such as in Treasure Planet and many others, and were very successful. So it suppose it works if done correctly.

Okay, in no particular order...
(1) Urusei Yatsura. It has everything. Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi, Action, Drama, Fantasy, etc. But mostly comedy. :p
(2) Digimon. I've always enjoyed the adventurous aspect of it.
(3) Death Note. Incredibly thought-provoking and refreshingly different from most other anime.
(4) Detective Conan. I find the mysteries to be quite intriguing and well planned out.
(5) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Oh, man, was this ever an amazing series. It's not even necessarily what it's about so much as how it's delivered.

6. What genre of film do you prefer?
Comedy.

7. Do you think that combining 2D and 3D animation works well? Please give a reason.
Well, I think it can work well, but I don't necessarily think it always does. Like any other thing, it really depends on what you're trying to do. No two situations are exactly the same.

(If Avatar was technically an anime I would totally put it first)

(1)Oban Star Racers- The animation is beautiful as well as the music. Also the dub was looked over by the creator of the show himself and distrubuted in part in America by his own English sector of his company instead of handing it off fully to another company. This made the English dub extremely close (I haven't found one line changed yet) to the original French. Aside from the technical things Oban has an amazing story, interesting characters, amazing design, and an unexpected totally not cliche ending....That and the season 1 DVD is only going to cost 14 dollars....Score.

(2)Cowboy Bebop- Unique Storyline and beautiful music (done by the same as Oban) which gives it a timeless quality. I'm able to watch this series over and over again without getting bored. Also has one of the most amazing endings I have ever seen. Simply epic.

(3)Pokemon- My first anime, it'll probably still be around when I get older and have kids. Timeless and cute.

(4)Wild ARMS Twilight Venom- Old Western with a twist. It was an extremely intresting watch, action packed, and thought provoking.

(5)Angelic Layer- I have a weakness for CLAMP and though this one is probably the most simple of the CLAMP series I can't help but love it. Cute and sad story, a little bit of romance, and a satisfying ending.

6. What genre of film do you prefer?
Comedy

7. Do you think that combining 2D and 3D animation works well? Please give a reason.
Heck yeah, look at Oban :3 Just don't overdo it, it hurts my eyes when Pokemon plays with 3D in their movies

(1) FullMetal Alchemist - Brilliant show. Focus is on the citizen v. the government, the reality of the soul, cultural tolerance and the seeking of an unattainable(?) goal. Religious overtones, but not overtly (except in the very beginning). Brilliantly constructed show.
(2) Death Note - Didn't see all of it but read the manga. Focus on the meaning of justice and the susceptibiity of people to corruption when given power. Is a fast-paced mystery-like storyline with brilliant twists and turns.
(3) Outlaw Star - sci-fi-ish story about the search the Galatic Leyline, again a story about the seeking of the unattainable(?).
(4) Tenchi Muyo - okay, I can explain this one. It's about love... kind of... but actually it's about the creators being as silly as possible and fulfil as many teenage fantasies as possible while still maintaining a healthy storyline... there is a great anime here if you can get past the whole 'harem' thing.
(5) Haruhi. Only seen a few episodes but like CPoC and DP said: effin amazing.

6. What genre of film do you prefer?
Um, action/philosophy?

7. Do you think that combining 2D and 3D animation works well? Please give a reason.
No, I think it looks really bad if sloppily done. At best, it's a little unsettling.

8. What type of music would you think would go well for a fast paced opening to a post-nuclear style film?
Techno [ ]
Heavy metal [ ]
Epic style classical [x]
---Something quiet, sad, or even something upbeat playing out of a broken radio while sweeping over the broken and haggard city streets, emulating through music the motion and vive which is clearly absent from the visual scene. Or, you know, Weird Al.

I watch it on TV if at all, but you better add "YouTube" or the like to that list, because that's where I watched some stuff.

Re: What DP said on Busou Renkin:
I don't think the usual is to have one character be obviously stronger than the others; I think the usual is to have one character potentially stronger than the others, and then have those latent abilities develop throughout. What's interesting about FMA is that Arakawa gives Ed everything from the start: he begins the series with *exactly* as much power and skill with which he ends the series, and in addition he's rich (due to his State Alchemist job) and famous (again, due to the same).
What you're describing in terms of the protagonist of Busou Renkin is that he is not "potentially stronger" but works to gain his skill. In this way he is different from Naruto or Ichigo where they begin weaker, but soon have people commenting on their immense abilities. This character (I forget his name) instead works hard to keep up, and is not particularly "special." Am I right in that assessment? And what would you say about the example of Ed?

Hey, thanks you guys. This is gonna help me a lot with my final project :)
Oh ya, and I was gonna include youtube but my teacher almost ripped my head off when I put that into the list (because, well, it ain't all that legal). So ya, had to take it out. Sorry you guys :heh:
