Title: Video Game Info
Description: Need a quick review?

Crystal Rose - March 17, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
Okay, so I was thinking with most of the people on the SRB owning at least one video game console together we have a pretty huge collection of video games. Well in order to protect other members from wasting their hard earned money on a game that one of us has and knows isn't worth it here is a quick thread where tthey can post up a title of a game and ask the opinions of everyone else!

I for one am looking at the while ago realeased Wario Ware Smooth Moves for the Wii. I've seen it in action and it looks good eough but is it really worth that money for just more Wii mini games?

The Vidit of Light - March 17, 2008 12:44 AM (GMT)
Hmm...this sounds like a good idea...of course, for my advice on video games, I've got my editorials topic, which I may well update with another review soon.

Anyway, Warioware: Smooth Moves? Never played it. I'm guessing, at least, that it received positive critical acclaim, but I could be wrong...have you looked it up on any game sites?

If not, or either way, here.

Crystal Rose - March 17, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
The only problem with game sites is that the reviewers allready have their halfway biased view on games (they were discussing it on XPlay a couple weeks back). If you know they don't like Sonic games for example unless it's amazin all the sonic games are going to get dismal reviews. I rather trust people on here who I have at least a couple things in common with.

Avenger29 - March 17, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
Reviewers? Please. Screw em.

I don't trust, nor read reviews. After the last few fiascoes, such as Final Fantasy XII, I've lost all faith in those jackwads. I say this: Play the game; Form your own opinion.

Good point. The Shadow game got bad reviews and I still enjoyed it.

A classic example. If I had listened to reviewers, I never would've touched that game. But, I followed my gut, and my love of Sonic games, and it ended up being a great experience. Frustrating at times, but still good.

Hmm... I haven't played any Warioware games, but I believe CPoC has. Anyways, if you have played and have liked any previous WarioWare games, I'd say it's probably worth it, as it seems to be much like those other ones, except wii-based (meaning there's almost definitely a whole lot of use of the motion-sensing controller). Plus, the gameplay I've seen of it on youtube made it seem really interesting (and funny XD ).

Overall take from this post: Wait until CPoC responds, as all I'm going off of is everything you probably are going off of for it. :heh:

Now don't get me wrong, I do like reviews (XPlay is always fun to watch) but i'm not fullheartedly basing my opinion from their reviews. Now graphics views are always welcom since we all kind of have the same views on whats good grapics.

Now I wish I would have had some of my friend's opinions when I spent my hard earned money on Sonic and Mario and Trauma center. I feel as if I waste my money because I'm kinda just going off a hope that a game will be good.

Yeah, I generally hold reviewers like Gamespot in rather high esteem, myself, even if I don't always agree with them. And yeah, graphically speaking, normally, we can have a consensus. Anyway, though, we're getting off-topic.

To help get us back ON topic, I will throw out a title myself:

Empire Earth 3.

According to the reviews, it's pretty bad, but if anyone here says differently, well, say so, I guess.

BlueRush - March 17, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
Great idea, C_R!

TVoL and CPoC will probably be good at this...

I don't know anything about WarioWare or Empire Earth 3... sorry...

C_R, how is that Trauma Center game? Isn't that like Phoenix Wright with doctors?

Has anybody played Kid Icarus? I was wondering if it was worth my $5.00 in Wii points.

Crystal Rose - March 17, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
Trauma center isn't horrible, my little sister is actually in love with it, but you certainly need a steady hand and A LOT of patience to play it and not constantly lose. My hands shake when I try to do some of those actions needed to save the people XD

The storyline is also pretty good, but it's text based so it's a long read.

If you want a challenge, go for it! If you're going to get fustrated by controls that make you want to screem (like me) than skip it.

I say rent first to see if you have a steady enough hand

Don't compare WarioWare to any... ANY of the Wii mini games. Trust me, CR. WarioWare is NOTHING like those and never has been! Smooth Moves is no exception, even if it does make use of the Wiimote.

It's a little hard to describe what a WarioWare game is like... but let's just say that in a matter of seconds, things can turn into complete and total chaos. :p

WarioWare Smooth Moves is awesome. It's hard for a WarioWare game to not be awesome. :)

If you've never played a single WarioWare game, it's hard to tell whether or not you'd like this one, as everyone has different tastes and first I'd have to know if you like the kind of game that WarioWare is, as the WarioWare games kinda belong in their own separate genre from all other games. However, I do know that if you've ever played a WarioWare game before and liked it, I guarantee that you'll like Smooth Moves. ;)

Yes, I own both the original NES cartridge AND the Virutal Console download. It's a great game, BR. It's the reason I was so excited when I first heard news of Pit being in Brawl. I'm an avid Kid Icarus fan.

However, I will give a fair warning about it... be prepared to hear the Game Over music a lot. ;)

tinmanti - March 17, 2008 04:16 PM (GMT)
I don't ever seem to like WarioWare games... so it was a surprise when I found myself enjoying the game. I found it was really experimental with the WiiMote and some of the techniques used in it where really great fun. I particularly liked the driving mini game that they had in it (which was one of the boss parts of the game).
The game is best played with a couple of mates who don't mind making a complete fool of themselves XD
All in all I found it to be a good laugh... although it can get a bit boring for me after a while as mini games tend to get a bit boring for me. That is just my opinion though. I've never really liked 'mini game' games.
If you've played and enjoyed the other WarioWare games then you will find this great. I mean, if a guy who doesn't enjoy these types of games enjoyed it, it must be good, eh? :)

That one's a blast, but I hate it when a cow randomly gets in the way. XD The cow is more annoying than the monkeys. At least the monkeys are easier to dodge.

Anywho, ya, I'd like to add another thing that sets the WarioWare games apart from those other games you mentioned, CR. WarioWare has a sense of humor. :)

ChaosHalberd750 - March 25, 2008 01:49 AM (GMT)
Heh, the Warioware series, pretty good. I have Mega Party Games for the Gamecube, it NEVER has failed to bring either joy, or complete frustration of losing to my friend's faces. The Wobbly Bobbly multiplayer game on there: a complete blast! I'd recommend it!

P.S.: And if anyone asks in the future, yes I actually enjoyed Shadow The Hedgehog.

Of course it wasn't the best in the series but it wasn't as horrible as a lot of reviewers and sites said. Just sorta fustrating at times

Frustration, thy name be Cosmic Fall.

Finding the computer room will never be harder.

Clown Prince of Crime - March 25, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
Shadow the Hedgehog, my thoughts:

Vector and Rouge's voices sucked. Amy's voice was meh. The controls were a little weird at times, but still far better than the controls in Sonic 2006. I'm not a very big fan of Shadow, but I thought the whole alien invasion thing was kind of interesting. Since Shadow was the titular character, though, it felt weird having so many of Sonic's buddies helping Shadow out... it just didn't seem right.

All in all, while this game wasn't great, it's still much, much, MUCH better than what all those reviewers out there are saying about it. Seriously, they're totally exaggerating the bad points of this game. It actually CAN be a fun game if you keep an open mind.

tinmanti - March 25, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
My opinion? I thought it was a good game. No way near as great as the Adventure games, but it was better than Heroes. Some of the levels weren't that great, but it did have its moments. I also thought that being able to plug in a second controller and play as the second character was a bit of fun as well :p
Critics were way to harsh on the game though. It didn't desurve all the bad feedback it got.
Ah well, I liked it. It also had an interesting story that, towards the end, closed a lot of doors for the story rather than forgeting about them.

...

I still think he should have stayed dead in Sonic Adventure 2 though ¬.¬

Clown Prince of Crime - March 25, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Ya, I think the story was its strongest point. I like that they left Shadow's past with Gerald actually being not too bad of a guy. It makes sense, though. He didn't really become all crazy and stuff until his granddaughter, Maria, died. And the way that Gerald thought of Shadow as though he were his son felt really good, too.

Ya, the game had a lot of bad points, but I don't consider it a bad game. I'd say I like it about as much as I liked Heroes, which I also don't consider a bad game.

I'll agree with all of your statements, sir Spoon.

And yes, Shadow should've stayed dead. Him coming back just really killed SA2's ending. (SA2, of course, not being my favorite of the 3D games, needs all the help it can get to stay on my good side.)

Actually, I liked SA2 quite a bit, and played its Gamecube remake rather obsessively (not as much, perhaps, as some of the rest of you, as I never unlocked 3-D Green Hill Zone), but Shadow not passing on at the end was I guess an okay plot point, but Sonic and co. didn't seem too surprised about it when they saw him in Heroes.

But this thread is getting off topic. Shouldn't this kind of discussion be reserved for Chatty Chat and/or the Sonic Discussion Zone.

ChaosHalberd750 - March 27, 2008 01:02 AM (GMT)
Alright then, time to get back ON topic, I'll throw out a game:

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

The storyline was EXCELLENT, the controls were simple enough, but I never could beat the trio. (aka:Giacomo, Ayme, Folon)

P.S.: SAB2, good game in my opinion, moving on.

Okay, I realize that this topic is old, and that none of you will probably have played the game I'm about to ask about, but...

Act of War: High Treason

I played the original game that High Treason builds on, and enjoyed it, and High Treason is on Steam for $20. Look it over, and I'll ask what you think:

Go for it or not?
