Gungrave is a awesome anime about a Gunslinger who fights Organized Crime, Vampire-Zombie Hybrids and his former best friend.
Gungrave originated as a PS2 game, and while in production the creators got the genius idea to hire a manga artist to design the characters. Given what the game is about -- a lone gunslinging hero -- they chose the best manga-ka possible for the job: Yasuhiro Nightow, creator of Trigun.
Gungrave was well-received and spawned not only a second PS2 game, but an entire anime created from the same premise as well.
The story is a little confusing -- it basically tells the tale of two former best friends, Brandon Heat and Harry MacDowell -- They were a part of a mafia-like group called Millennion -- until Harry tried to kill the group's leader, "Big Daddy", and Brandon remained loyal and was killed for it.
The anime starts fifteen years later, when Brandon has been revived as "Beyond the Grave" -- who is a lot like Nightow's signature character Vash... if Vash was completely humorless and had no qualms about killing.
S'far I haven't seen a whole lot of this, or played either of the games, but I can safely say just from what little I've seen -- and the fact that Yasuhiro Nightow created the characters -- that it is completely and utterly awesome and everyone should watch it.
