Title: Password Policy
Description: Mui Importante

Oh HI 8D

As I'm sure you all remember, we recently added two new forums, the Serious Discussion Zone and the Private Discussion Zone. These two zones are only accessable when a member has the password.

One of our admins sent out the password to the Serious Discussion Zone to the other admins, our mods, and a few members who we deemed apropriate for the discussions that would carry on in this new forum (it should be noted that the password for the Private Discussion Zone wasn't given out to any members).

So far this is goin' just swell, but we wanna make a rule regarding this password totally clear:

Only Admins and Mods are allowed to give out the password. Everyone else is asked to keep the password to themselves.

We understand that a case of unauthorized password distribution has occured. We're totally not mad or anything, but please keep in mind:

1) If you're a member who wasn't given the password, it's because we believed it to be in the forum's best interest not to.
2) And if a member asks you for the password, remember the above and also that you don't have the authority to give it unless you're a mod or admin, which statistics tell us you're most likely not.

A'ight? 8D

EDIT:

As BR added, this rule also applies to the Media And Fan Zones that require passwords.

This is probably just me, but I think that there should be a password reset, due to the leaks.

In a perfect world, this would be the next course of action. However, accoarding to BR, changing the password isn't that easy. >.O That's the main reason this case was so frustrating.

Idea: move important threads out of compromised section (probably into your mod-only zone, temporarily), delete the compromised section, create a new password only section, and move those important threads back. As far as I know, there's only one thread in those two new sections, so that should be easy enough to do for at least those two sections...

That could work... it wouldn't be a whole host of trouble...

Better ask BR, though, since he sets this stuff up.

DP, making geniusly genius ideas of a geniusly genius genius.

.........Ok, reverse Franz does not work, but you get my point, hopefully.

Now... I'm rather interested to find out who leaked the passwords... I'm quite sure I know which members weren't allowed to have the passwords, yet still got in, so...

Sorry but that's on a need to know basis, but it doesn't matter anyways because it's all been taken care of :3

Someone guy sent me an email with the password cause I asked a mod but now after reading this I don't think it was a mod but idk ether way I'm not going in there anymore since I do know no mods gave me the password but I think just to be safe you should reset the passwords so nothing like this ever happens again.

Actually, from what is my understanding, DP's way of doing things would just make it harder. It's not that it's hard to change the password at all. Actually, it's pretty easy. BR's reason for not wanting to change the passwords is simply that then we'd have to PM everyone who has the old passwords with the new passwords.

As for you, Theloveyoumakeistheloveyoutake, we originally didn't want to give you the password because of the way you've been acting, and the Serious Discussion Zone is the last place we'd want to see that type of behavior. However, so long as you remember to act in a civil manner, there shouldn't be any problems. Just keep in mind that you've used up all your chances (and we give many chances), and prove to us that you are responsible enough to post in that new forum. There's no need to stop posting anywhere. Just follow the rules and you'll be fine.

That's exactly what this is: making sure it doesn't happen again. For future reference, nobody give out passwords. Just an announcement.

Everything related to this specific example has been summarily handled by PM. ^_^ No need to discuss it here further.

Thanks for the suggestion, DP, but the most difficult thing about changing the password is just that: everyone having to type it in again. ^^; Maybe not as tough as I initially made it sound. In any case, don't worry about it.

EDIT: Yeah, what CPoC said. ^^;

Indeed. No further discussion of the specific leak is needed.

Lazy!!!!!

And yes, I know I'm probably not the person to go yelling out about that, but it still needs to be said for its humor value. :p

XD

Note that I actually wrote mine first and discovered CPoC's post after... I was trying to make it sound like I didn't want to burden everybody, but it was actually just me being lazy! XD
