Title: Where Are You From?
Description: Please, not 'The Talk.'
AGodofIrony - July 20, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
Where are you from?
This does not necessarily mean where you were born, where your ancestors hail from, or where you live now, but what is the place, the setting of which you identity as where you have those memories of yore.
For me, I come from nowhere and everywhere. Being a military brat, I never lived in one place for very long. I was born in California, and now live in California, but I’ve lived here for about as long as I’ve lived in Texas.
There is no real one place I can point to a map and say ‘This is where I’m from.’ I have memories of friends from Germany, experiences in Georgia I shan’t forget, my middle school experience in West Texas, the travels I’ve had in Europe and across America.
I do not feel as though I’ve lived in my current area long enough to say that this is where I am from.
My roots are spread around the world.
I am a citizen of the empire.
You?

Eh, I don't know if this is the right place for this topic, since it could easily be in the off-topic zone. I guess the other mods can talk and decide. We could easily move it.
Anyway-- I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, then I moved to (I think) Miami, Florida when I was 2, and then I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where I lived til I was 12. Then I moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which is where I live now.
I "grew up" in North Carolina (as in that's where I when through most of the growing up process), but I'm the person I am now because of how I've been living here in Myrtle Beach. So if I was out somewhere and someone asked me where I was from, I'd just tell them I from Myrtle Beach.
Avenger29 - July 20, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
Born: Nashville, TN.
Lived there til I was two...
Moved to: Crab Orchard, WV.
Where I spent most of my first decade on this Earth. I'm not gonna lie. That neighborhood was a complete shithole. Bunch of drug dealers lived next door to us, and I hated it.
Then moved to: Sophia, WV.
While the circumstances to getting this house were very tragic, I have to admit, I'm a little glad it happened. I could've died, had we been living in Crab Orchard any longer. (Seriously. Bullets were fired in the direction of my old room shortly after we moved.) This place is the opposite of Crab Orchard. Sure, two of the neighbors, one of which happens to be my uncle, are complete doucheballs, but aside from that, I don't think I'd wanna live anywhere else.
Knucxsonia - July 20, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
Me.....I was born in one place.......lived in many others.
Lets see.......Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Alabama, Georiga, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin (My fave of all of them), Utah, Washington, Minnisota, Montana, Louisiana, Tennesee, Massichusits (sp?), and Florida.
Yeah.....Dad's a pipeliner.
tinmanti - July 20, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Hmm... lets see.
Well, I've lived in Norfolk all my life. Oh, and just incase you don't know where that is, it's...

Yup, was born in Norwich (the main city in Norfolk) and have lived in a small town called Sutton near the sea all my life. Lived here with my Mum and Dad happy for the first 3 or 4 years of my life... then my sister came <_<
Nah, she ain't that bad really. I love her to bits (although, she can be a smurf sometimes :p )
Anyways, I'm a Norfolk lad, pure and simple.

Hmmmmm I dunno either Kimi, well it'll be fine here until one of the admins say something. Yep, i'm no help XD
Like AGoI I am a military brat and I wouldn't have it any other way. This means i've been shipped all around though surprisingly i've only lived in one state and two countries (not including the US).
Back in the day I was born on the quaint island of Okinawa in the lovely country of Japan and we lived there for a couple good years before my dad was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC and we moved to Raeford.....Oh Raeford....Cows, tabacco, and old ugly houses...And a strange amount of crime. Then came our first tour in Germany at Kaiserslautern, then back to NC and to Harnett County (More cows, tabacco, and crap) and then to the greatest place on Earth: Mannheim Germany, and then back to NC in Fayetteville......My mom's home town.
Mannheim was where I think I was the happiest and though. Best city. EVER :D

Personally, I think this topic fits better in the Off-Topic Discussion Zone, so... off we go! :p
Dark Phazon - July 21, 2008 07:09 AM (GMT)
This is soooooo easy for me, since I lived in the same place for the first near-18 years of my life. I am a P-burger! So yeah, Phillipsburg, NJ is what I think of as my "home town". Even having lived about a 5-10 minute drive away, across the Delaware River, for the last 3 years, just going back into Phillipsburg makes me feel like "yeah, this is my home town".
And for a non-admin/mod's opinion, I believe this was put in this section more because it would be possible that some people may not feel comfortable stating their hometowns or what-have-you in the public sections. (that isn't the case with me, but it might be for others?)
And it's moved anyway before I can submit.

You know why? :ninja:
It's because...

Anywho, anybody that feels uncomfortable with that information in a public area, feel free to edit your post. :p Though, I think most of us have already said where we're from in Chatty-Chat before, anyway. :heh:

Pokol Da'Erran - July 21, 2008 10:21 PM (GMT)
I was born on Earth, quickly moved to Mobius for 10 years, then went here for six months, then went to the Pokemon world for 2 years, and I've been here for six months now.
Like I was seriously going to tell you where I live.
R0UGE - July 21, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)

let's see, i was born and raised (and still being raised) in texas. :3 my mom and dad moved around for a while but when my dad's job got transffered to texas, my mom was pregnant with me and had me here. we've lived here ever since! :3 houston, texas! that's pernounced hue-s-ton for those who think house-ton. (alot of people get confused about that)
Knucxsonia - July 27, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
Houston! I've been there! I got a little pony plush there ^v^.
GoldenSama - July 27, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
Well, let's see.
I was born in Vegas, though I hardly remember it. Moved to Maryland when I was about five, then moved to Delaware, then moved back to Maryland.
Lived there a long time; till just after the turn of the millennium when I moved to Missouri for a year. Moved back to Maryland, again, and then moved back to Missouri where I currently am. o.O
Only four states, but it sounds a lot more confusing, doesn't it? XD
I miss Maryland sometimes. I like where I live, it's just not exciting. Like, not at all.
Once I have enough cash to make it on my own, I'd like to live near a beach. I love the beach. =3 A house right on the water... that'd be sweeet. Expensive, though.

becareful of hurricanes! i live several miles from the coast, but where I live we still get hit by 'im... and pretty hard too. Hurricane (i think) Rita hit here and it wasn't too bad. But we didn't get the bad side. It was just after Katrina too.
HellAvatar - July 29, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
I've been to quite a few places, though I've lived in only two of them. I was born in Kharkov, Ukraine, and have lived there for the first 9 years of my life, after which we decided to escape from all of the nastiness of post-communist USSR and hailed behind over to the United States, settling here in Seattle area, Washington. That's pretty much where I'm at right now, though the family is planning to make a visit back to Ukraine at some point or other.
So yeah, I'm just as foreign as some of the others here, though I like to think of my own English proficiency as higher than those of most Americans. It's kinda scary to think of it that way...
GoldenSama - July 29, 2008 07:01 AM (GMT)
Eh, Hurricanes are super-scary, but there's something you have to deal with wherever you live. Wildfires & Earthquakes in California, Hurricanes in the Coasts & Gulf, and where I live -- Tornadoes and Ice Storms! Woo.
Yeah, giant funnels of wind that can tear a city to pieces in seconds. It's SO fun. I once had a giant chunk of torn up, highway guardrail land in my front yard. Scary as crap.
Plus the ice storms... we had five inches of ice on our car one time. o.o Trapped in the house for a couple weeks. SUCKED.
So, yeah, there's something wherever you go. Part of life.
[...]
It is a bit scary to think of that HA, but it's totally true. There's some people where I live who speak "English" and I have no idea what they're saying. o.o I'm not trying to put them down or anything, I just don't understand the Missouri dialect.

AWrtbeer - August 5, 2008 05:19 AM (GMT)
I'm from the Mojave Desert in California!
we got these awesome joshua trees:

Plus the stuff people dump in the desert that me and my friends find range from large sacks of croûtons to flame throwers (with some juice left! :p ) Although it's more believable to say army knives or m-80's
Sammy-Star - August 5, 2008 06:42 AM (GMT)
haha! that's so cool! i'd hate to live in the desert though. i hate the summer heat. i'm more of a winter person really. (and i was born in dec! XD ) i love texas an' all, but i HATE the summers. XP terrible really.

Heck ya! I have been practicing that accent ^v^.
Plus, I LOVE the summer. I may have been born in January, but I love the summer!
Some people say that spring's the most romantic of all seasons, but I think it's summer!
Winter is the second most romantic......I wish I had a good boyfriend to cuddle with in that time of year, though.

o_0 Hm, I could have sworn I posted here! Guess not...
Born in Fayetteville, NC. Ever since I came home from the hospital, I've lived in the same state, city, house, and bedroom all my life; never moved an inch. Which is weird here, because the majority of Fayetteville's population consist of military families (because Ft. Bragg is so close), and are constantly moving around.
So anyway, I can easily say I'm from Fayetteville. :D

I guess everybody announced where they live so, I don't know what to say.
