Title: Sweeping Up At The Party
Description: Happy Birthday, DP!

GoldenSama - July 30, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
[Sama Says] Happy Birthday, DP! Hope this one finds you well. For your story, I wasn't sure what to do – but then a somewhat crazy idea came to me in my half-asleep mind. I hope you'll enjoy it. =3

The gigantic ballroom was decorated with precise care. Ribbons hang from the ceiling, the finest silken curtains were placed over the windows, white sheets adorned all of the tables and several flowers of every kind had been placed delicately in the center of each and every one of the tables. Someone had spent a lot of time and money arranging the magnificent ballroom just right.

A blond-haired young woman wearing a frilly black dress was wandering through the crowded ballroom, carrying a trey of mini-pizzas with one arm. She did not watch where she was going; instead she was starring wide-eyed at the fancy setup of the room, her mouth agape as she bumbled around.

“Hey! What's with that spaced-out glaze on your face? Did you forget you're here to work?”

The voice could have belonged to one of the other waiters at the fancy party; but in fact it had seemed to come right out of thin air. The true source of the voice, which only the blond heard, was her earring. A small radio receiver was implanted in the tiny earring and had carried the voice of her accomplice to her over the noisy, crowded party.

“Huh? Oh, sorry!” The Blond-Girl quickly looked around, trying to re-affirm her surroundings. As she did, she stopped walking and almost caused the person behind her to crash right into her. The man was fairly snotty and shot her a dark glance as he passed by. That man, like many at the party, only cared about the big-wigs and connections who lingered around the mansion.

If only he had known that the girl he'd glared angrily at was the daughter of a world-renown figure, now out to make her own name in the sand. She pouted angrily at the rude man as he darted off, but ignored him when another message came from out of her earring.

“You're not what I'd call 'stealthy'. Are you really the famous Cid's daughter?”

“Oh, knock it off! I was just a little preoccupied! Besides – I just found her!” The Blond-Girl squealed with delight suddenly as her swirling green eyes picked up on a figure from across the room.

In one of the sides of the gigantic ballroom, near the tallest window, there was a table draped in red silk instead of the usual white. There were no flowers on this tabletop; instead there was a tall candelabra with five lit candles. Sitting at the table were three young women.

The brown-haired girl looked rather pleasant, bopping her head in tune with the music and moving her fingers at the tempo, smiling happily. Sitting across from her was a pale-faced girl with black hair and a sour scowl. She was the text-book definition of 'emo' and did not look like she was having any fun at all.

Between the two of them was the third girl – the one the blond waitress was now starring at. She had black hair and a pretty face, although there was a certain hint of darkness in her eyes. She looked downright bored, absently strumming her fork on her plate.

“You found her?” The voice on the earring replied.

“Yeah!” The Blond-Girl repeated excitedly. “I'm sure of it! The bounty is as good as ours!”

Suddenly the Blond-Girl had to jump away; the Emo Girl had just jumped to her feet, reached a hand up her sleeve and tossed out four long, razor-sharp knives right in her direction. Blond Girl jumped back, but she was caught anyway! The blades and snagged into the frills of the waitress dress and pinned her to the wall.

“A sweeper.” The Dark-Eyed Girl stood up, shaking her head. The room had gone crazy when the knives were thrown, but they calmed when they saw this girl stand up. It was, after all, her party that they were attending. “I can't stand Sweepers. Always after the bounty on my head.”

Blond-Girl looked like she was in trouble. The way Dark-Eyed Girl was talking, she had dealt with Sweepers in the past. Her eyes glared and she snapped her fingers. Emo Girl stepped forward, holding a knife in each hand tightly. Blond Girl was pretty sure she would not like what happened next.

Luckily, she had no intention of letting anything happen. Suddenly there was a tearing sound, and then a clang of metal! She had jumped forward and knocked Emo Girl off her feet. Concealed inside her dress were two large, red daggers. She used them to rip free of the wall. Now clad in her orange tank-top and green shorts she'd worn beneath the waitress disguise, Blond Girl had given herself a opening to attack!

Dark-Eyed Girl wasn't happy about that. She quickly back flipped and escaped from the slash that had come her way. Dark-Eyed Girl ran up the steps, and as she did, Blond Girl found herself face-to-face with the brown haired girl who'd also been at the table.

She jumped forward and kicked Blond Girl – while balancing on one toe. Acrobatic Girl had some serious skills, and she was using them. Another kick to the face and then a punch to the gut and Blond Girl was in some trouble. She stepped it up, moving faster than before and kicking and slashing at the Acrobat.

Blond Girl escaped from a mighty kick aimed at her face, she ducked and rolled across the ground, coming up next to one of the walls. She slashed her dagger into a rope on the wall and the chandelier on the ceiling fell to the ground with a great crash. Sadly, unlike in the cartoons, the chandelier landed nowhere near Acrobat Girl – who charged forward and slammed a foot into Blond Girl's stomach.

Emo Girl was back on her feet, holding more knives between her fingers. The Dark-Eyed Girl who liked to play the leader was standing back, still refusing to get engaged in the battle herself.

“You got in trouble again, huh?” The voice on the earring spoke.

“Yeah...” Blond Girl gulped.

Suddenly, the gigantic window behind the table where the three girls had originally sat exploded inward with a massive display of force. Heads turned, and while the three bad girls were distracted, Blond Girl made her escape, running and disappearing into the crowd.

The window had exploded because of the voice on Blond Girl's earring. More precisely, because of its owner. A fifth girl had appeared, this one dressed all in black and carrying a gleaming white sword. She moved at incredible speeds and slammed the hilt of the sword into Acrobat Girl's head, knocking her out. She slashed at Emo Girl, but the knife-wielding woman slashed one of her blades and knocked the new Goth Girl's sword off course.

With her sword missing its mark, Goth Girl lost her footing and Emo Girl tried to stab her down. Goth Girl was too quick and escaped from it; then she slashed back with her katana and cut the knife apart. She darted around behind Emo Girl and opened her free hand into a palm. A blast of red energy shot forth, struck the Emo Girl on close range, and knocked her unconscious.

Goth Girl raised her sword, while Blond Girl made a victory pose. “ALRIGHT! We did it! Come on, Zulie, you're OURS!” She giggled.

“... I don't think so.” Dark-Eyed Girl hissed; then she jumped back. A layer of armor broke out of her belt and covered her arms, chest and legs. Large, triangular spikes were over her fists – and beneath her hands on either side were giant openings.

“That was pretty cool.” Blond Girl nodded.
“Not really.” Goth Girl sighed. She grabbed a small notebook from he pocket and opened it to a page with two (terrible) drawings. One was of a bunny with sunglasses, the other was what looked like a bear with a Mohawk.

“Do you see what is and isn't cool now?” Goth Girl asked.

“... Noooo.” Blond Girl replied.

Suddenly a jet of flames pierced the air between them. They turned back to the Dark-Eyed Girl and realized what the holes in her gauntlets were for – they shot fire.

“That's not good.” Goth Girl gulped.

Dark-Eyed Girl darted forward and started punching her fists into the air, shooting small fireballs from the bottom of her gloves towards the two Sweepers. They both ran through the room, which was considerably less crowded since the battles had begun.

Dark-Eyed Girl seemed to focus on Goth Girl after the way she'd subdued her two accomplices. She shot several small fireballs, which the Goth Girl had blocked away with her sword. One gigantic ball of flames ended her assault, which Goth Girl actually had to slice clean in half with her sword to keep from being fried.

Meanwhile, Blond Girl was running through the room, stealing things. She jumped by a girl who was carrying a weird spray bottle and swiped it, prompting an angry yell from the victim. Then she moved by a table and stole a soda from out of a girl in green's hands.

The girl would have been more angry, but she just repeated the theft by stealing the soda from her companion – a boy in red.

As Blond Girl ran, she mixed the soda with the weird spray bottle and its contents. Then she charged at the Dark-Eyed Girl who was still shooting fireballs. Sneaking up from behind, she sprayed the bottle at her and instantly the Dark-Eyed Girl's armor became coated in a thick sheet of rust – including the ports to her flamethrowers.

“W-What did you do!?” Dark-Eyed Girl screamed.

“Mixing Luminol and Cola gives you a super rust spray, heh!” Blond Girl snickered. The Dark-Eyed Girl looked like she was going to make another move, but Goth Girl gently pressed her sword against the armored girl's neck and she calmed down.

“Well, we got our bounty.” Blond Girl grinned. She and her companion were now standing in a dingy little police station, where a blue-haired girl in a pink kimono with a badge pinned to her chest was sitting at the table in front of them. The three femme fatals from the party were locked up already, and now the two Sweepers just needed to collect the reward.

“As usual, you girls did great!” The Chief in the Kimono grinned. “Just like old Cid would have done!”

Blond Girl crossed her arms and puffed out her cheeks. “Hey! I'm better than he was!”

“... I'd agree, but...” Goth Girl held up another drawing. This one was of a very lopsided rabbit with a speech bubble asking: 'If we're so much better than Cid, why don't we get called by our names?'

The Blond Girl sweat dropped. “Aw... man. I guess we still have a few things to learn...”

So, I'm not sure what this is, really. XD I wanted to write you something using things I knew you liked, but I also wanted to make it unusual.

Trivia

The setting (the fancy party) and the idea of bounty hunters (sweepers) comes from Black Cat's first episode.

I didn't use anyone's name.

Why?

...

I dunno.

I'm fairly sure that everyone can identify all the characters and cameos without me saying who they are. :p Maybe someone can list them and win a fantastic prize!

Here's the list if you want to play along! For the record, the Rude Guy was just a rude guy. He's not a cameo. Just a jerk.

Main Characters
Blond Girl:
Dark-Eyed Girl:
Acrobatic Girl:
Emo Girl:
Goth Girl:

Cameos
Luminol Girl:
Girl in Green:
Boy in Red:
Chief on Broom:

I actually had a ton of fun writing this. I might do a part two someday – but for now, I have a lot of other stuff I need to finish. Still, this was fun to write. =3

My biggest hope of all, though, is that DP enjoyed this story for his birthday!
