Description: Starcraft with a twist!

The Vidit of Light - September 6, 2008 01:18 AM (GMT)
Hey there, folks! This fic is my entry into the casting contest! I hope to expand it tonight, but in the meantime, here's part one in its own topic!

Another day done, and Vidit was at Teh City’s S.A.I.N.T. base, laying down to sleep. It had been an intense day. Why? Did some horrific villain strike, threatening to destroy the world? Did some terrifying demon appear that needed to be exorcised? Did some evil robot army try to destroy his base?

No.

What had happened is that he and Wonder Sama had entered the Teh City 2v2 Starcraft tournament. They had already fought several matches that day, and had won them all. Granted, Vidit isn’t too good at online play, but their main competitors were the various animae and video game characters who also resided in Teh City and rarely played video games, so they were fine.

”Cortana…” Vidit said. “…set the alarm clock to 9:30, please. I have a match at 10. Good night.”

”9:30 it is, sir. Good night.” Cortana replied.

Vidit drifted off to sleep…

“Magistrate? Magistrate, are you alright?”

”Wha-what? I’m here, I’m here!” Vidit said, looking around, seeing that he was apparently at some sort of command console greeted by the adjutant.

“Magistrate, your training is complete. I have an assignment coming in from Confederate Headquarters on Tarsonis for you. Patching general Sporky through:

Sproky’s face appeared on a screen.

”Greetings. I’m general Sproky, Confederate Alpha Squadron. As you know, Mar Sara is your responsibility, Vidit, but with the recent appearance of those xenoforms in the sector, we’ll be locking down the colony within 48 hours. You’ve gotta move your colonists out of the cities and into the wastelands, where you must construct an entirely new base and begin training more marines to help defend them. Is that clear, magistrate?”

Vidit seemed to know exactly what was happening.

”Understood, sir.” He said. “But may I ask a few questions?”
”Yes.”
“Why, instead of keeping the colonists in the cities and such where we already have bases, supplies, garrison units, etc., etc., we’re evacuating them not off-planet, but rather to a different part of the same threatened planet where we have none of those things and they’ll be xeno-food if we get attacked there? I understand building a new base, but why move the colonists to what’s going to be a border outpost when they get there rather than keep them secure in the main bases? Or just get them off-planet? Again, why this crazy evacuation and a planetary lockdown?”

”…shut up. “

Vidit sighed, and his command console came online. What greeted him were four Terran Marines and four Terran SCVs.

“What the-these are my colonists? They’re not civilians! They’re military workers (SCVs) and soldiers! What’s going on here?!”

”Plot hole.” One of the SCV drivers said. “Now get us poor, defenseless colonists to your base, where we’ll actually not be too much safer until you build up.”

Vidit directed them to get moving, and soon, the “colonists” came to a young man sitting upon a hoverbike.

“This thing is AWESOME!” the man yelled. “Wait, the colonists!” he said, noticing them. When they approached him, he spoke in a comm. channel.

“Magistrate Vidit, hey! I’m Wonder Sama, local marshal ‘round here!”

“They made you marshal over a wasteland? Who lives here, anyway?”

”Your colonists!" Sama replied.

"But you've been marshal for how long?"

"Three years!"

"My "colonists", which are actually more like military units to anyone familiar with this mission, just arrived today!"

"Well, plenty of bugs live here, too! And those aliens! They're pretty crazy, so somebody's gotta keep an eye on them!"

"An eye on them? They're vicious alien invaders that try to slaughter any human they come across!"

"Exactly! Where would this place be without law enforcement officials like me to arrest them for trying stuff like that!"

"...Sama, I think I know why they made you marshal of the unpopulated wastelands for three years."

"Glad you understand!" Sama said proudly.

“Keep moving.” Vidit said. "And Sama, you stay in the middle of the marines and DON'T fire your weapons."

"Fire my weapons? Only if they resist arrest! But it is kind of hard to arrest those zerglings..."

"Zerglings. That's what they're called. I know that we just just call them "xenoforms" right now, but click on them! You'll see they're called Zerglings!"

"...just keep moving and Sama, let the Marines handle the xenoforms."

"Ooo! Are they trained to negotiate with the aliens? I try to, but they always just screech at me and try to rip me apart with their claw-arms as soon as I speak to them. Are they specially trained to talk to the aliens?"

"...you might say that. Anyway, move out!"

After encountering a few xenoforms, and killing them, they arrived at a mineral field.

Vidit directed his workers to start mining, had them build a barracks, and produced 10 Terran Marines from it.

”By the way, the xenos know we’re here now…” Vidit said. “I think this evacuation is kind of a failure…”

Suddenly, on Vidit’s command console appeared the words “Congratulations! You are victorious!”

He sighed.

The Vidit of Light - September 6, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
Sama contacted him.

”Hey man. I’ve got your refugees safe. I’ve promised to arrest any alien that comes into the campus of the new base,”

Vidit gasped.

“, and the colonists are armed and have regular patrols,”

Vidit breathed a sigh of relief.

“and my permission to arrest any aliens they see fit to arrest, so they’re fine!”

Suddenly, an alarm blared.

”Warning! ” The adjutant cried. “Backwater station under attack! Distress beacon at 0658. Patching general Sporky through.”

“We’ve already received the distress beacon from Backwater,” Spork said over the transmission channel, “And we’ll handle it. You sit tight.”

“Wait, I’m marshall here and you’re magistrate, Vidit! We should save that colony! Besides, Sporky’s troops won’t get here in time!”

“I don’t know, Sama. I mean, Alpha Squadron prides itself as being the”first in and first out”…”

“Oh, come on! I’ll get out there now, do what I can, you send in the local militia, and we’ll save the colony and be hailed as heroes. Trust me.”

“Wait, I don’t know if-“

Vidit’s command console started up again, and as he looked over his base, Sama was there.

“Hey Vidit! I know I was supposed to get out there and do what I can, but those things are resisting arrest, and I didn’t want to hurt them…”

”Really?”

”No, not really. It’s just that my bike can’t stand a full-blown attack by six zerglings. Let’s face it: vulture bikes suck.”

“I never build them.”

“Good. Anyway, so how about that militia?”

”Well, I dunno, but, well, fine.”

Minutes later, squads of gun-toting Marines and flamethrower-equipped Terran Firebats were raring to go.

“Don’t ask me how we can just call them up in the field like this.” Vidit said. “Maybe the people fill the building when it’s built, we just don’t see it. In fact, why is it that only the Terrans have this problem?”

“Ah, makes enough sense to me.” Sama shrugged. “Talk about that stuff later. That colony needs us.”

The troops moved out, and they came upon Zerg creep.

“Ka bibble!” Sama yelled. “That ground looks like it’s alive! Sick! It’s coming from that living structure thing over there! This stuff is sick and unnatural! Kill it!”

The troops destroy the Zerg structure, and make their way to backwater station, still fine.

“Good thing you guys are here!” a military worker said. “We’ve been holed up in those bunkers for days hiding from the zerg!”

”Wait…” Vidit said over the commlink. “You’ve been holed up for days in those bunkers, but you just activated your distress beacon minutes ago?”

”We just signed up for the college money!” a worker said. “We didn’t expect to get in the middle of a war! When the zerg attacked, we all just ran for the nearest thing to hide behind! It took days to build up the courage to activate that beacon!”

(Note: That was a JOKE. I do NOT mean to imply that anyone who goes into the military with college money in mind is a coward.)

Vidit sighed, and ordered his troops on. Eventually, they came to a command center that the zerg had infested.

“SICK! EVIL! UNNATURAL!” Sama cried. “KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!”

“Wait, troops!” Vidit yelled, but some Firebats burned the Infested Command Center to the ground.

Just them, Terran ships bearing the Alpha Squadron symbol flew overhead, and Sporky spoke up through a comm. channel.

“Alright, you men are all under arrest for violation of orders and destruction of confederate property!” he said.

“”Let’s save the colony!” Vidit said sarcastically on a channel to Sama. “”Sporky’s troops won’t get here in time! We’ll be hailed as heroes!” Great going, Sama. Sporky’s troops DID get here in time, and we’re under arrest as criminals, not being praised as heroes! Remind me never to listen to you again!”

“Ka bibble…” Sama said. “Well, I’m pretty sure I’ll have good ideas in the future…in fact, I still thing this one was a good idea.”

I don't understand part of this, not knowing to much about Starcraft, but I still find this hilarious Vidit.

Kill it fire!

Thank you, Irony. For more information on Starcraft, consult the Starcraft wiki:

That link will take you to the page on Edmund Duke, who Sporky's filling in for here. Otherwise, if you don't recognize a term I use (such as, say "Terran Firebat"), enter it into that wiki's search feature to fill yourself in.

Update!
---
Confederate perimeter patrol
Mar Sara colony

The badlands were mostly quiet at night. Across a dune drove a buggy. Inside it, guitar music played on the radio. Two people were sitting in it.

“Hey sarge.” the one sitting in the passenger seat, a girl with brown hair and cowboy boots, asked. “Why do we have to listen to this stuff?”

”Because I’m in charge, that’s why.” The driver, a boy with blonde hair and a…frying pan…on his head said.

“That doesn’t seem like a good reason to me…” KxS muttered.

Suddenly, some creature collided with the front of their buggy.

They stepped out to look at it.

”What IS that thing?” KxS asked.

“It’s a zergling…smaller type of zerg…” tinman said. “It wouldn’t be out this far unless…”

There was purring sound behind them.

“Uh-oh…” tinman muttered.

Indeed, a hydralisk and two zerglings had positioned themselves within the gap between tinman and KxS and their vehicle.

KxS, realizing the potential implications of this, cried out:

”I love you, tin-I mean SARGE!”

However, tinman was handling a device he had drawn from his vest…

Vidit was at his command desk again, and had just viewed a very angry transmission from Sporky.

He was also looking over a report. It seemed that Alpha Squadron had been stopping any action against the zerg, and there was only one source of military relief from it, it seemed: the Sons of Korhal, a “terrorist group” that operated to destroy the very Confederacy that now stood indifferent, it seemed, as aliens tore through its outer colonies.

The adjutant alerted him that the head of that organization was on the line.

“Good day, magistrate Vidit. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Rush, head of the Sons of Korhal.” Rush said, through the comm. link, and continued to speak: “You’re aware of the propaganda surrounding my group, but I think you can see past it. I’m willing to send some of my transports over to your colony to evacuate any survivors, because let’s face it: Mar Sara is lost. However, if you cooperate with me, you’ll be branded a traitor and outlaw, too. But it’s a chance to save the people you were put over? What do you say?”

Vidit paused, sighed, then spoke.

“Thank you for your offer. Send your transports, and get my citizens and I off this planet. The Confederacy is no help to us now.”

Suddenly, the adjutant cried out “Alert! Landing zone under attack by zerg forces! Distress beacon at 1220!”

Vidit’s command console turned on, and he began directing the defense of his colony.

Thirty minutes passed, and the zerg ran blindly into the teeth of his defenses, and finally, the transports arrived.

“Strap yourselves in, boys!” one of the transport pilots said.

I know, a short update, and not a lot of humor in this one. Hopefully that will change in the next update.

The Vidit of Light - October 12, 2008 06:40 AM (GMT)
Vidit, at his command desk, was being contacted by both Rush and Sama.

“Gentlemen.” Rush said. “Good to have you aboard. We’ve got a lot of work to do. Our techs are working on decoding that data disk we recovered-“

”What data disk?” Sama asked.

“The one you recoverd in the last mission.”

”What? The last mission? But wasn’t that the defense of the colony as your ships came to evac-“

“No, it wasn’t. There was a little something called “The Jacobs Installation”, but TVoL didn’t write it in because he’s not going to get far enough as is and didn’t think that that mission really presented enough opportunity for jokes.”

“Fine, fine.” Sama said. “Let’s just get on with this. And why didn’t the forth wall complain?”

”What?”

”Never mind.”

“Anyway,” Rush said. “We’ve received reports that the Confederate colony on Antiga Prime is ready to revolt. Now, I want you to-“

“Wait.” Vidit said. “I thank you for your help, but I’m not certain I want to join your rebellion…”

“Where else would you go? The Confederates hate you now for joining me, and the other Terran factions wouldn’t trust a former Confederate magistrate. So unless you want to throw yourself at the mercy of the Zerg or Protoss, I suggest you stick with us.”

“Point taken...sir.” Vidit says.

”Excellent.” Rush replied. “Anyway, I want you to take a strike team, Vidit, which will include Sama, and meet up with my lieutenant, Crystal Rose. Escort her to the Antigan base, where she’ll…ahem…eliminate the Confederate officer there-she’s a Ghost operative, complete with a personal cloak field generator-and they should then rise up against the Confederates. However, there’s also a Confederate strike force nearby. It seems they’ve sent in your old friend general Spork to keep the Antigans in line. Vidit, once the Antigans are ready to fight, take command of their forces and drive Alpha Squadron back. Clear?”

”Understood.” Vidit said.

“How come I don’t get to command?” Sama asked.

“You’ll get to personally fight alongside lieutenant Rose and personally escort her to the Antigan base, while Vidit will be directing you remotely from the command ship.” Rush said.

“I think that Vidit should get the command for the good of the cause.” Sama quickly said.

Vidit sighed. His command console booted up, and he gathered up his squad of Marines and Sama and directed them south. Soon, they came upon a girl standing in their path.

“Commander Vidit, HI!” she said waving upwards, as Vidit’s view of the battle from his console was more or less a bird’s-eye style one. “And you…” she said, pointing, “must be SAMA!”

She flung herself at Sama for a huggle.

The burden of command… Vidit thought, seeing that.

The huggle connected on Sama, and, though he enjoyed it at first, he soon realized that a hug from Crystal Rose is not always an entirely pleasant affair…

“KA BIBBLE!” he yelled as his face turned blue and his ribs begged for relief.

“On the other hand, maybe better that wasn’t me…” Vidit muttered.

Crystal’s ear twitched. “Hmm?” she asked.

“Uh-don’t worry about that!” Vidit quickly said. “Now, you were going to say something, lieutenant?”

“Uh, YEAH!” Crystal says, remembering, and releasing Sama, who gasps for air.

”I did some scouting around. Sporky’s troops have some stuff set up between us and the Antigan’s base, but we should be able to take it!”

With that, Vidit directed the group forward, and a few firefights later, they were facing the bluff on which the Antigan base stood.

”Crystal?” Vidit said.

”Yeah?” came the reply.

“I need you to cloak yourself and get to the Antigan command center….to deal with the Confederate officer there.”

”Hmm? Oh, sure!” Crystal replied. She activated a stealth field, and proceeded to skip undetected through the Confederate defenses at the bottom of the bluff, and made her way up the bluff into the Antigan command center.

Vidit, with his command console, saw what she had done.

“Dude…” he said. “I just told her to go assassinate someone, and she skipped off to do it.”

”Yeah, and her huggles are pretty painful, but I still like her.” Sama said.

Suddenly, a cry was heard from within the Antigan command center, and Crystal Rose stepped out of it.

”The Antigans are ready to join us, commander!” Crystal said.

”Is the Confederate officer that was in their command center…is he…” Vidit said, somewhat uncertain of how to inquire towards that matter.

“Is he what, sir?” Crystal asked.

“Dispatched?” Vidit asked.

”Oh yeah.” Crystal said. “I don’t think he’ll be bothering us for a while.’

”Good…wait, what?!”

”What do you mean? I huggled him REEEEEEEEEEEEEAL tight, and now he’s run off!”

“Wait, you mean you didn’t…assassinate him?”

Crystal gasps.

”OF COURSE NOT!” she shouted. “What kind of monster do you take me for?!”

“My apologies if I offended you, lieutenant, it’s just that this is war and…”

”And I’m Crystal Rose! I don’t like killing and stuff. Leave that to others, when it has to be done. A huggle, if done right, can get decent results anyway.”

Suddenly, explosions and gunshots sound out, and the Antigans on the bluff began to fire on the surrounding confederates at its bottom, and vice versa.

After the shootout ends, the Confederates are driven back for the time being, but as there is nonetheless a sizable Confederate strike force to the south, Vidit takes command of the Antigan forces and begins to produce more military units. Soon enough, he’s got a group of air units and infantry ready to go, and he moves them to attack…and comes upon a practically unguarded Confederate Refinery, with SCVs (the Terran worker unit in Starcraft) taking gas from it down a long road to a distant command center.

“What the-“ Vidit says. “Oh well, attack!”

The battle begins, and, although it’s fierce, eventually, Vidit’s troops destroy that refinery, and sweeping south, then west, clear out the entire Confederate base in vicious but decisive fighting.

“Area secured, sir.” Vidit transmits to Rush. “The Confederates have been driven back.”

”I would complain that I didn’t get to take a bite out of Sporky’s troops,” Sama chimes in, “,but since you left me in the base with Crystal, I’m not going to.” he says.

“Very good, Vidit. The colony has agreed to join us. Another step in our war against the Confederacy for the good of humanity.” Rush says.

The words “Congratulations! You are victorious!” and “Victory” appear on Vidit’s console.

Meanwhile, general Sporky is pondering over his defeat.

”I knew it was a bad idea to establish my base at a site with Vespene gas so far away.” he said.

By the way, in Starcraft, the characters that Sama and Crystal Rose are filling in for DO actually start a romance. I think. Something like that.
