Title: [Monsters Among Us]

GoldenSama - May 15, 2010 05:26 AM (GMT)
“Ten years ago an incident occurred here on the island nation of Kanto. A mysterious light flashed in the sky. It lasted only seconds, but the world has never been the same since. Strange monsters soon began to appear all over Kanto, and all over the world.

These monsters were intelligent, capable of speech and emotions. They were also capable of great feats of physical strength and supernatural powers. Some monsters soon became no more than wild animals, while others have chosen to team up with human partners!

It was not long before the monsters were an essential part of our daily lives. Some use the monsters for competitions – like fighting tournaments and beauty contests. Others team up to build things, enforce the laws or simply be friends! However, even after a decade none of us know where the monsters came from or how they got here – even the monsters don’t know!

That is why I study monsters as a professional! My name is Oak, and people affectionately refer to me as The Monster Professor! For years, I led the field of research into monster behavior and personality – but now I’ve made my greatest discovery…

… I know where the monsters came from, and more importantly why they are here. Now, I have to find people and monsters capable of fulfilling the destiny started ten years ago, so I’m holding a tournament in Celadon City, hoping to attract the best and brightest from around Kanto and the world!

Do you have what it takes? Well, there’s only one way to find out, isn’t there? A world of dreams and adventures with monsters awaits!

… Let’s go!”

[Celadon City: Streets]

A young boy in a red hat and blue jeans was bicycling down the street. He was Red from the town of Pallet, a young man with big dreams of becoming a famous Monster Trainer.

On his shoulder was a yellow mouse called Pikachu. The two were both quiet, as they wondered the street.

[Celadon Game Corner]

Bing! Ding! Bling! Buzz! Boink!

Celadon City’s famous Game Corner was abuzz of noise, full of whistles and whirls, lights and sounds and all sorts of manner of amusement! Coins chinked down into slot machines, music blazed from the DDR booth and arcade games shouted sound throughout the hall.

It was the greatest arcade in Kanto by most standards, and famous for their fabulous prizes! No one ever paid attention to the odd men in black suits emblazoned with the letter ‘R’ who seemed to shuffle to and fro.

In the midst of this game corner were two youths; a boy in a blue sleeveless jacket and goggles, and a girl in a pink and white shirt with a camera around her neck.

“Alright! Man, this game corner is the best!” Davis said, pumping his fist in the air as he won a game of Plants vs. Zombies.

Kari rolled her eyes and giggled a bit. Davis was a ball of energy, and always amusing. “That’s nice… but shouldn’t we be getting to the arena to register?”

[Celadon Department Store]

“… NICK! Buy me these, oh and these! OH! Yes, and buy me these too!”

A girl in a purple shrine maiden’s outfit was running down the hall of the Department Store. On every shelf, she grabbed about three or four items and demanded that they be bought.

Behind her was a weary man in a blue suit and red tie. “… Geez Maya, do you need all of this for the tournament?”

Maya blinked, and then gasped, covering her mouth. “Oh, I forgot about the tournament! That’s why we came to Celadon!”

Nick sighed.

Celedon City-tournament registration/offices

A young man was standing, waiting. He was not here to register for the tournament, oh no, far from it.

He wore plainclothes, but seemed slightly bulkier than the average man, even the average well-conditioned one.

This was because he was wearing some light armor underneath his clothes. Can't be too careful.

Alright...jet hovercraft...cloaked and parked. Mission objectives: determine origin of monster activity, hopefully via cordial conversation and inquiry with the professor. Investigate operations of criminal cartel "Team Rocket". Reevaluate mission upon completion of either objective, relay information, and determine next course of action/await further orders... he thought.

SAINT had watched the monsters gradually appear with growing concern. There were several regions across the world that had them, and many, or even most (I'm guessing? Am I wrong here? I can change it if need be.) that did not, and had been influenced by them only a little (the inverse of regions like Kanto which seemed to have restructured or built a large part of their culture around them). SAINT was relieved by this.

Agent codename "Vidit Light" had been reassigned.

Meanwhile, if he was here, at least, Prof. Oak would be informed that a certain "Mr. Light" wished to speak with him privately, at his leisure, and if at all possible. Vidit thought being polite was the best way to go about this.

Occassionally, he would glace at his PDA, look amused or annoyed, then type something into it. It may have looked like he was just texting, but he was, in fact, conversing silently with Cortana, his AI aide.

Celadon City: Streets

A young man with spiky brown hair was walking down the streets with a rock creature.

"So, Brock, was it more that you wanted to enter this tournament or that you wanted to stare at women?", asked the rock creature.

Brock responded, "Well, Gotsumon... it was to enter the tournament, but hey! I don't mind a few added perks."

Gotsumon rolled his eyes.

And at that moment, Brock spotted a familiar face.

"Hey, Red! Wow, I haven't seen you in a while. Are you here for the tournament, too?", Brock asked his longtime friend.

Not too far away, a girl named Green was surveying the area. She was hanging on to Jigglypuff's feet while looking at Celedon through binoculars. Jigglypuff was puffed up and flapping her arms to fly.

"This city sure is big, Green.", Jigglypuff stated.

"Heh, heh, heh...", Green replied. "It sure is... and that just means there's more suckers to take advantage of..."

Celadon Game Corner

A young boy was walking around, dazzled by the sights and sounds. Unfortunately, he wasn't watching where he was going, and accidentally walked right into Kari!

While not too far away... a sinister looking girl with an R on her shirt observed the crowd.

GoldenSama - May 15, 2010 07:42 AM (GMT)
(The monsters have appeared worldwide – but the majority of them are in Kanto and the surrounding regions)

[Celadon City Arena: Oak’s Office]

Professor Samuel Oak, considered by many to be the leading authority on monsters, sat in a small office in the arena. He had rented out the arena for the tournament, and was currently going over the last few preparations. The tournament was not starting yet, but it would begin soon – and Oak had to be ready.

The door opened and a girl informed him that someone had been inquiring to see him. He blinked a few times, and then nodded.

“Very well! Show the young man in.”

Vidit would be allowed in.

[Celadon City: Streets]

Red stopped his bike as he noticed Brock, and when Brock spotted him, Red gave a small nod.

“Hey Brock… it’s been ages.” He gave a small smile and hopped off his bike, Pikachu jumping down and looking over to Gotsumon.

Red then nodded. “Yeah, Professor Oak invited me to enter, so I thought I’d come down and give it a shot!”

[Celadon City: Game Corner]

Kari was ready to pressure Davis into leaving, when suddenly a young boy ended up walking right into her! She fell over and rubbed her head, looking up at the boy.

“HEY! Just what are you trying with Kari!?” Davis, of course, saw a boy fallen atop Kari and got the wrong idea instantly.

“Daisuke, stop it.” Kari scolded him, looking at the boy. “Are you okay?”

The Vidit of Light - May 15, 2010 08:20 AM (GMT)
Celedon City-Oak's Office

Vidit walked in, a backpack (housing his glove) swung over his shoulder.

"Professor Oak, thank you for seeing me on such short notice-espeically so close to the start of the tournament. I know events such as this can be rather hectic, especially when trying to get them off the ground? I hope it's going well."

Again, no problem being cordial.

"Especially in light of your business, I'll cut to the chase: you're considered the foremost expect on the strange, even alien creatures that have appeared in the world inexplicably as of late. Heck, I know that one of the prizes you offer in this tournament is the knowledge that you seemed to have gained about their origin and potential aim or "purpose" here."

He sighed.

"I want that information." he produced an ID card-his SAINT ID.

"I'm agent codename "Vidit Light", Society for the Abolition or Incarceration of Nefarious Tyrants. I don't know if you've heard of us, and if not, let's just say we are an organization which practices a sort of...armed philanthropy. And by "philanthropy", I mean we are particularly interested in the well-being, prosperity, safety, and survival of the human race in particular. We've been viewing the appearance, spread, and cultural impact of these creatures-again, essentially alien visitors-with increasing concern. Surely you understand-a race of sentiant aliens suddenly appears on Earth and begins having increasing cultural influence and impact in human society. It...has us worried. So in short, I would like to know what it is you've learned about them. Namely, their origin, and "purpose" for being here."

Cortana's hologram appeared from his PDA.

"This is my AI aide Cortana."

"Good day, professor." she said, her one-foot-tall hologram having appeared on Oak's desk and giving him a curtsy.

Vidit stared for a bit (Cortana was hardly ever so formal even with SAINT's brass), before going on.

"Who is recording this conversation, and via my PDA will be maintaining a lie detection function-again, I hope you understand. I want the truth."

He paused.

"With that being said, however, I am NOT here to rob you, nor force you to diviluge the information against your will. I am simply requesting it. Neither I nor my superiors wish to be enemies with you, nor are we thugs who simply push people around to achieve our ends. Still...this could well be an issue of the preservation of human culture and the survival of the human race as a whole. Please, I ask you to consider your responsibility to the rest of humanity. So, if I may, I humbly request to hear what it is you have learned about the "monsters"."

Brock nodded, "I see. You haven't heard from Misty or Erika, have you?"

Celadon City: Game Corner

The boy looked down at Kari and blushed. He quickly got up and dusted himself off, responding, "Y-ya! I'm so sorry about that! I was distracted by all the games here and wasn't looking where I was going."

a small monkey creature popped up from behind the boy's head and said, "Hey, they have monsters!"

The boy blinked and said, "You're right, Chimchar! Umm... so, are you guys in town for the tournament as well? My name is Spoony, by the way."

-Celdon City: Streets-

A young girl in a straw hat was making her way down the streets, sitting on the back of her Dodrio. Next to her was her Pikachu, a flower on the small creatures head.

She paused, seeing two familiar figures off in the distance. Her face brightened up.

“Ohhh, Dody, Chu, look! It's Red and Brock!” Yellow said. Dody nodded, with all three of his heads, and then hurried over to the two.

“Red! Brock! Hi!” Yellow smiled, “I'm glad to see some friends here!”

-Celadon City: Arena-

“So this is the tournament, eh?” a young boy with a British accent and red hair said. Only two Monsters were with him at the moment. The other two were back at his hotel room for the moment.

“Are you sure you're ready for this?” a Jolteon wondered, looking around, “You're still young...”

“I'm sure! I'm good with electricity, after all,” Galv smiled, “Right Magnemite?”

“Yaaaahhhhh~” Magnemite bobbed up and down. Due to being partially metal, everything Magnemite said sounded auto tuned...

-Celadon: Game Corner-

“Hmmm...Some interesting prizes...”

A young man with gray hair was looking over some prizes. In particular, rare rocks.

Only his Skarmory was with him at the moment. His Steel monsters tended to scare many. They were not as nice to look at as many others.

HellAvatar - May 15, 2010 12:19 PM (GMT)
Celdon City: Streets

Another boy was traveling down the main street of the city, looking in awe around him at all the buildings. He cut quite a sight: riding the back of a horse-sized dragon, which was moving forward at a rather steady pace, its wings folded at its sides comfortably, and another, much smaller dragon curled up around his neck like some expensive shawl or necktie.

The fact that the dragon he rode faintly glimmered in the sun, partially reflecting and refracting light from its scales did not help him be surreptitious at all. After all, it;s not every day that someone came into the town on the back of a dragon with another snoring away around his neck.

The rider himself was in awes of everything around him. Having been raised in a very utilitarian and simple place up north, the big cities were something that was way beyond his understanding. His head swerved about quickly, trying to capture as many sights as he could, annoying the hatchling around his neck enough for the small dragon to wake up, and spoke up with a rather cutesy, childish voice.

"... Can't you stop moving around? I'm trying to SLEEP."

The boy himself answered with a rather offhanded tone, still paying attention more to the surroundings.

"It's my first time in a place this big. I can't imagine anything that's bigger than this... Look at it! The buildings, the streets, the grandeur!"

The dragon he was riding moved its head around to look at his rider with a single, mirthful eye, answering in a voice that could barely be passed up as teenage.

"The noise, the level of commotion, the utter mess, the confusion..."

The rider huffed, looking annoyed.

"Well, I am too awed by the positive to be inspecting the negative, Chryst. Come on! This place is HUGE! I can't imagine ever living in a place like this! Imagine, this place could be growing even bigger! How many things are there to do here, how many places to see!"

The blue dragon hatchling leveled an annoyed eye at then boy before climbing down his back and wrapping itself in his cape, intent on finishing its nap. Stupid Zar, stupid city, stupid noise...

It didn't take long for the small blue to get comfortable within the cape and fall asleep. The bigger dragon swerved out of the way of a cart, heading for the center of the city.

"So, why are we here? You refused to speak of it until we got here, Zar, and you know I don't like secrets."

The rider, now identified as "Zar", sat back, lightly petting the small lump curled up in his cape. He looked around again before sighing and looking up.

"... I was sent here by the Elder Ones. The want to know what is happening, and this place is the hub of all the recent activity. The man named Oak, the upcoming tournament, it all points towards the very event that transported your kind from wherever you came from to just outside this world. Whatever it was had enough power to translocate your entire race, Chryst. It's something the Elder Ones are worried about."

The dragon scoffed in return.

"Those geezers are also worried about who is picking whose nose. Why send us?"

Zar shrugged. "That... I don't know. But hey, at least we go on an adventure! I was getting BORED within the walls of the Dragon Temple. That place is as boring as watching pain dry or grass grow. It was HORRIBLE!"

Chryst just turned back to the road, snickering.

"Right, and the fact that you often blew up whatever room you lived in didn't contribute to your lonely lifestyle..."

"HEY! It's not my fault that the Mana here is so much more potent than anything you dragons are used to! Trying to control it is like trying to control a-... Never mind. NEVER YOU MIND." Chryst was snickering as Zar reddened, finding himself trapped in his own words. "... Shut up, Chryst!"

"Hehehe. It's not MY fault you dug your own grave, kid. Now, shall we find this place, or will you keep gawking at the human females?"

"... Just go."

[Celadon Arena: Oak’s Office]

Oak remained seated in his chair as Vidit came in, and he listened to him as the agent spoke. All the while, he sipped a cup of tea while listening.

“Oh, things are going very well. The tournament should move ahead as planned.”

"I want that information."

When Vidit spoke those words, Professor Oak paused and sat down his cup. He seemed to frown a bit and sit back in his chair, a contemplative look crossing his face.

“Please, I ask you to consider your responsibility to the rest of humanity. So, if I may, I humbly request to hear what it is you have learned about the "monsters"."

Oak was silent for a moment, obviously deep in through. Finally he stood up and cleared his throat. “…Believe me; I am considering the rest of humanity in every action I take. You may not believe me, my young friend, but I can promise you that is the truth.”

Professor Oak gave a small smile. “… I’m afraid this is a complicated situation. You see, I have indeed discovered the reason the monsters have appeared.”

His face became very serious. “… However, I cannot share this information with you, nor can I explain why. I assure you, I am sympathetic to your reason for asking, but…”

He shook his head. “If you knew what I knew, you would understand why I can’t tell you… however, there IS good news. Once this tournament is over… once I have found those with the specific qualities… then I will be free to tell you everything I know. So I ask for your patience.”

[Celadon Streets]

Red just groaned. Of course, he was reunited with Brock and not five minutes later Brock was asking about the girls. Saying he had a one track mind was an understatement.

“… Nope. You’re the first familiar face I’ve seen, Brock.”

“… What a hopeless case, Pi.” Pikachu sighed from Red’s shoulder.

Then, Yellow appeared. Red nodded to her and gave a thumbs up.

“Hey Yellow. You’re here too, eh? It’s a regular reunion…”

[...]

In another part of the streets, a young woman in a pink beret was happily walking towards the arena. All around her were six fox-like monsters -- one seemingly of leaf, one of ice, one of fire, one of lightning, one of water and one that seemed... purple.

She walked right by Zar, humming a tune and listening to her ipod.

[Celadon City: Game Corner]

Davis was still fuming a bit from the kid who landed on Kari, but the girl in question seemed to have forgiven Spoony. She gave him a friendly smile and extended a hand to formally introduce herself.

“Hello, I’m Hikari Yagami, but you can just call me Kari. It’s nice to meet you Spoony.”

A white cat monster walked over and leaned against Kari’s legs. “I’m Gatomon.”

Davis was still a bit cranky, but the blue baby dragon at his side seemed friendly enough.

“Hiya there buddy, name’s Veemon! Nicetameetcha!”

[Celadon Arena: Gates]

Over at the gates of the arena, near where Galv stood with his electric monsters, another young man walked up. He wore a yellow baseball cap, and on his head was a Cyndaquil, and strapped to his back was a kendo stick.

“… Hey. You were for the tournament?” Gold asked, raising an eyebrow. “Nice to meet you. I’m Gold, and this is Knux.”

[Celadon City: Streets]

A rather pale skinned android looked around Celadon City, relatively bored...His red cap was usually on his raven hair, his beady eyes looking around for something to do...

"...Bored, Quote?" A Dragonite nicknamed Spur was following him, a small smile on her face. "I remember a game corner in Celadon...but you aren't much of a gambler, are you?" The android named Quote sighed, shaking his head. "Aw, c'mon! At least let me have a go." The Dragonite sighed. "Oh, fine."

A Jolteon was sitting on Dragonite's tail, nicknamed Rocket. "We have quite some money to spare. Go shead, if you want." She didn't really talk much, so this came as somewhat of a surprise to Dragonite, who might have forgotten she was there.

"Hey!" Spur smiled, her tail shooting upward, sending the Jolteon flying in front of her...

"Nohugsnohugsnohugsnohu-GAH!" The Dragonite hugged Jolteon, maybe breaking a bone or two...Or fifteen...

She finally let go of the poor Jolteon after a few minutes. "...Can't...breathe..."

A Grovyle was leaning against a nearby building, looking at the group. This one was nicknamed Blade, and...well, he had a bit of a personality. "...Hm."

"Boo!"

"Bwaaaagh!" The Grovyle turned around rather panicked, as a boom of thunder was heard from behind him. A Pikachu was laughing, his tail gathering lightning. The Grovyle sighed... "Nemesis..."

"That's my name, don't wear it out!" He smiled, hopping onto Grovyle's shoulder. "C'mon, Mr. Samurai."

"Don't call me that." The Grovyle said, slightly irritated.

"Let's just head back to Quote. Think he might be going to the Game Corner." A Squirtle said, hopping on the Grovyle's other shoulder. This one was nicknamed Bubbler.

"Stop talking, and let's go!" A Charizard roared, Blade, Nemesis, and Bubbler probably jumping a good yard or so. This one was nicknamed Fireball. "Hahah! C'mon! I wanna see if I can get some more cash then you!"

"Do you really have anything to use it on?" Rocket said, Fireball turning around to see her...

"Ya little-"

"Oh, quit." Spur was behind Jolteon. "...Hey, everyone's here! Hugs for all!"

"NO!" Too late. They were all being huggled.

Well, minus Quote, of course, who was merely observing behind all of his Pokemon, sweatdropping.

Zar watched as the girl with various creatures around her walked by as he stopped to watch the crowds, more than a little awed by the sheer size of the population. Back at the temple grounds, there were only 40 people at best, and not one of them an unfamiliar face. Here, there were so many people he didn't recognize...

It was rather daunting, to be sure.

Still, he liked to think that he had retained his composure when watching. It wasn't as if he was gaping open-mouthed. Looking at people passing by, he noted the girl, one of those people that also worked along with the creatures that came from elsewhere...

...

"Hey, Chryst... We have GOT to get ourselves one of those."

"What, a babe? Yeah, I know what you mean. I dunno if she's your type, but who knows... Though I don't see a crystal dragon around do you?"

Zar finally looked away from everything else, glaring at his own dragon. "THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT AND YOU KNOW IT! Sheesh. One of those Mp3 things for the music."

The dragon just scoffed. "I still think getting a girl is more important than some puny Mp3 player. Seriously, summoner, you have some really messed-up priorities if you consider music to be above the attention of a lady friend."

Zar huffed, smirking as he turned away. "Yeah, and that's the reason you don't have a girl..."

"... Do you WANT me to slap you with my tail?"

"Nah, I'm cool. Though I need some direction... OOOOI! YOU! YOU WITH THE FOXES AND THE EARBUDS! Could you point me in the right direction? I'm new in town and I want to find the... Arena? Was that what it was? Well, wherever that tournament is happening."

Vidit listened intently, and he was clearly disappointed by what he heard.

“… I’m afraid this is a complicated situation. You see, I have indeed discovered the reason the monsters have appeared.… However, I cannot share this information with you, nor can I explain why. I assure you, I am sympathetic to your reason for asking, but…”

"Hmph. Very well. Again, we are not thugs. If this is your decision, I find it regrettable, but-"

“If you knew what I knew, you would understand why I can’t tell you… however, there IS good news. Once this tournament is over… once I have found those with the specific qualities… then I will be free to tell you everything I know. So I ask for your patience.”

At the promise of telling him later, Vidit's earnest, somewhat glum visage lit up considerably.

"Ah! Now that's a different story! My patience? Yes, I believe I can provide that, thank you. However, specific qualities? What exactly is it that you need before you consider yourself free to tell your knowledge, and why? If I may ask. What is so important about this tournament?"

A redheaded girl exited a large train, followed by various travelers, most heading towards the massive tournament to be onlookers and competitors. The train ride hadn't been too long but annoying none-the-less, as the majority of passengers were speaking of the competition like there was nothing else in the news worth mentioning.

"Ugh...Finally." she sighed to her partner both heading out of the station and out to the street. Celadon was a busting area, especially this time of year. Misty wanted nothing more than to lay out with a good book...But no luck. Lilly, Daisy, and Violet had no interest in attending the competition so it was up to her to represent the Gym and her family, known for their amazing shows and entertaining feats.

Blech. She would rather just train Pokemon.

"So what do we do from here?" her pokemon asked, floating beside her. Misty pointed forward.

"To the arena of course, i'm sure someone wants an interview about Daisy or something..."

Celadon Arena

Meanwhile in another part of the city a teenage girl was signing up for the competition, looking rather smug about it. Behind her another girl stood, looking slightly nervous but keeping quiet.

"This will be a breeze" Jade said, signing a few waivers. Next to her stood a Glaceon, matching the expression of her trainer. The icy creature shot a glare at the child behind her. Jade raised a brow, turning around.

"What? Delcatty got your tongue girly?"

Melanie blinked, looking at the much taller girl. She instantly shook her head, face going red. She--and her Misdreavus-- looked worried.

"Then did you just decide to become a mute or something?" Jade looked annoyed. "If you aren't going to talk (also known as singing Jade's praise) then you can just leav-"

"N-no!" Melanie instantly said, face going red. "Uh sorry Jade, I was just thinking of something."

"What kind of something?"

"....Um joining the competition?" Melanie attempted. Misdreavus floated around her shoulders.

Jade was silent for a moment before giving a sharp laugh. "That's hilarious...You do realize you're here for ME right? That's what you do when you idol someone....Isn't that right Glaceon?

The creature, who had still not spoken, gave a slight nod. "Whatever you say young miss"

[Celadon Streets]

The girl with the six small foxes and the ipod stopped in her tracks as Zar yelled at her. She spun around with a hand on her hip and a small, amused smirk on her face. This was Antoinette, a fierce trainer who had come looking for a challenge at Oak’s Tournament.

“You’re here for the tournament too, huh?” Antoinette asked, taking the buds out of her ears and grinning slyly. “Hmm… Yeah, I know where the arena is at – question is, why should I tell you?”

[Celadon Arena]

Gold blinked, overhearing some speaking from not far away. The raised voice of Jade was not hard to hear, and while Gold didn’t know the girl, she had a certain… look about her.

The younger girl seemed a lot more innocent, but the older one just had that kind of scary look about her.

“Yo, Princess, what’s with the fancy dress? This is a monster tournament, not a tea party.” Gold crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. Yes, he was known for being antagonistic… but it was what helped him find good fights!

Of course picking a fight with Jade is about as smart as bathing with your toaster.

[Celadon City: Oak’s Office]

"Ah! Now that's a different story! My patience? Yes, I believe I can provide that, thank you. However, specific qualities? What exactly is it that you need before you consider yourself free to tell your knowledge, and why? If I may ask. What is so important about this tournament?"

Oak’s face lit up as the questions were asked. He seemed to suddenly be enthralled at the prospect of a long-winded explanation – something all Professor’s are very happy to offer at any time.

“Well you see, the entire reason I’m holding this tournament is to find the very best trainers around. Now when I say ‘best’, most people think ‘most powerful’, or the one ‘with the best tactics’. Ah, but I’m looking at something… different.”

Oak gave a large grin, but then calmed himself down. “… What I need before I can tell the knowledge is to find a few people who meet certain criteria. The tournament is important because, by observing those who participate and the choices they make, I will be able to discern who possess the correct criteria from the group.”

His face softened a bit. “I truly believe that by the end of the tournament, I shall have found them… I cannot go into details, sadly, but sufficient to say it is a matter of the utmost importance. This is not merely about a tournament, oh no… it’s something so much more…”

Zar smirked. This one was definitely feisty. Maybe she was good in the combat arena as well? Who knows, maybe those little plush toys of hers weren't just for show...

Though the fact that all these foxes were rather small kinda took away from the intimidation factor.

"Why? Well, if you want good competition, then I suppose it wouldn't hurt to point me there. That is if you want a COMPETENT opponent. I can assure you that I'll probably be reaching the top tiers, and if you're goo enough, we would be able to meet in combat. And if you don't tell me, I can always find someone who is much nicer that will simply show me the way without any sort of required payment method."

The dragon beneath him looked critically over the foxes and shook his head, the spiky mane twisting every which way. He looked... Disappointed, though just a bit.

"Those little fluffballs don't look like much of a competition... Or even a meal, really, but I'm not one to underestimate an opponent because of size. Point us to the Arena, and we'll stop bothering you."

Zar smacked the dragon's neck lightly with a fisted hand. "Oi. Don't be rude, and don't eat the sentients."

The dragon just huffed in annoyance. "I never do anything fun these days..."

"QUOOOOOTE!~" sang a girly voice, running to her fellow android and glomping him. "Oh, I'm so glad I found yooouuuuu! I wanted to show you my brand-new bike!" Curly exclaimed, jumping onto her red bicycle and riding around Quote.

"See? Isn't it just squeaky clean!" she giggled.

Four Pokemon were just running up to her, huffing and puffing. "God, Curly, could you slow down?! I don't have the energy a robot has!" Buneary complained, falling face-first to the ground, still trying to catch his breath.

"You're just lazy, Buneary! Hehe!" Loppuny laughed, poking her friend.

"Quit poking meeeee...."

"Nope!"

Two Nedorans, one male, one female, were catching their breath as well. "I'm hungry..." Neda, the female, complained.

"We'll eat in a minute...right?" Nedo replied, looking at Curly.

"Of course you will! Hey, Quote, how 'bout we all eat together?!" she inquired, grinning. But since Quote barely ever talked, the blonde android answered for him. "OK, lets go then!"

Elsewhere, KxS was walking the streets with her Pokemon and Neopets. She was just looking around, enjoying the sights. Her monsters were following close behind her.

"I wanna train mooooorrrreee..." 'Vengy the Charmander groaned, feeling he didn't get enough training.

"Shut up, 'Veng, we're all tired. Can't we all just find a field and relax?" Black Wolf the Mightyena replied, panting.

"I'm tired toooo..." the Dratini named Eragon sighed, riding on his Mightyena friend.

"All this training is not doing good things to my mane..." Starhorn teh Uni complained, looking at her reflection in a puddle.

Fireball the Scorchio (who just so happens to have the same name as Quote's Charizard *shrug*) rolled his eyes.

"We'll stop somewhere, I guess. My legs can't take much more walking," KxS said, sitting on the sidewalk. All of the monsters gathered around her and rested with her.

Fireball's eyes lit up at the sound of food, Dragonite finally letting go. "Food! Must get!"

"I concur." Spur smiled. "Feeling rather hungry, myself." The other Pokemon nodded, Quote smiled, nodding in agreement.

"Let's go." The android spoke almost at a whisper, still nodding.

Yellow smiled when Red said hello to her, nodding to him and Brock.

“Are you here to compete in the tournament?” Yellow wondered, “I heard there was one going on. I don't think I'll join though...I'm not much of a battler.”

-Celadon City: Arena Gates-

“That I am. Name's Galv. This is Jolteon and Magnemite,” Galv nodded to Gold. Jolteon merely nodded.

“So nice to meet youuuu~” Magnemite auto tuned.

However, now another two made their presence known, and Galv turned as well.

“'Ello ladies,” Galv said, speaking in his accent to Jade and Melanie. He gave a slight pause to Jade. 'Lady' just didn't fit her.

“Are the two of you planning on joining this tournament?” Galv wondered. He didn't really seem to notice Melanie...

"Hm?"

Jade turned at the sound of Gold's voice, hands on her hips. Melanie stood behind the older girl, looking slightly worried about the boy's fate now that he had crossed paths with the ice queen herself.

"It isn't wise to criticize a woman you know" Jade said smoothly walking over to the boy, wagging her finger. Melanie seemed to be making silent motions behind Jade signaling for the boy to escape while he could. So was Misdreavus.

"But you did get one thing right...I am a princess..." she stopped directly in front of him, touching his cheek. "How do you feel about being beat down by a girl?"

“'Ello ladies,”

Jade blinked "Oh look...More fans! I'll be in the competition....Melanie, not so much. She's here to carry my things."

Melanie was too afraid to object.

“I truly believe that by the end of the tournament, I shall have found them… I cannot go into details, sadly, but sufficient to say it is a matter of the utmost importance. This is not merely about a tournament, oh no… it’s something so much more…”

"That is exactly why I would insist that you disclose the information now...for all we know, the clock to some catastrophe is ticking. And yes, I know how paranoid I sound, but a little paranoia's part of the job in SAINT. When dealing with matters like this, it is hard to be TOO careful...as for finding individuals with admirable qualities you seek...I'm confident that we at SAINT have many such individuals-barring, perhaps, the notion, as I'm guessing, that you want someone with a strong bond with these xenomorphic life forms...if I can somehow prove that you can divulge this information to me before the tournament's conclusion, show that I am somehow "worthy" of it or whatever it is you're after, let me know...otherwise, I believe our busniess is concluded."

He stood.

"I bid you good day. I hope this tournament goes well."

Again, he had voiced his disapproval with Oak's decision to withhold, however temporarily, the information he was after. No need to be hostile or impolite about things.

Unless Oak actually responded to his questions in the affirmative, Vidit rose, pushed his chair in, and exited the office and registration. As Cortana relayed the results of the conversation to SAINT command, Vidit began making his way to another objective...

Celedon City-streets

Vidit hit the town again, walking along at a nice, relaxed pace. His next objective wasn't going anywhere. It was possible he'd cross paths with someone here for the tournament or something, but how much attention from such a crowd would he attract? ...maybe more than he thought. Unlike many in the area, he actually WASN'T surrounded by monsters hovering around him as he walked along. That may have ironically made him stand out.

Curly spend most of the way skipping alongside Quote. She smiled (as always) as she looked at the restaurant. The blonde android held her capped friend's hand and walked in with him, looking around the interior of the restaurant.

"Urgh, why must we always walk?" Buneary complained.

---

KxS and her Pokemon watched the people walk past them. Celadon is so BIG...there were so many people. But KxS smiled as she watched them walk past. She would wave to a few people who walked the closest to her. She saw Vidit walk by and she waved at him, since he was walking pretty close to her.

That big smile of hers didn't disappear. It was just a nice day...

Galv frowned. He didn't like Jade.

“The competition's open for everyone,” Galv said, then motioned to Melanie, “She...Melanie, right? Can join the competition if she wants. No rules against it.”

“So we're joining this tournament, right?” a short boy dressed in green said, as he and his single Monster partner walked along the streets.

“That is correct...” the humanoid kitsune said, having a few blades on his back, along with armor. He was taller then the boy.

“I wonder what we'll find out here...” Jimi wondered, then grinned, “Let's go!”

-Oak's Office-

“You should have just told him you haven't even told your own grandson yet...” Blue sighed, appearing from a doorway. “If you're not going to tell me before hand, who are, huh?”

He grinned a little, “I heard Red is in town. Bet he's going to join the tournament as well...Already signed up. Hope I'm good enough for one of those people you're looking for.”

KxS was now carrying her Charmander, still sitting at the side-walk. She saw Jimi run by, and she decided to wave it him as well.

"Why do you wave at everybody, KxS?" Eragon asked, being a curious Dratini.

The cowgirl shrugged. "I think it's a country thing. I dunno," she answered.

'Vengy laughed. "I think she's wanting a boyfriend."

KxS blushed. "N-no! That is not why! S-sure I feel a bit lonely sometimes, but I have you guys! Y'all keep me from bein' lonely, y'all know that!"

The Charmander kept laughing inside his head. Thoughts of her waving at people just to get a boyfriend...priceless.

Celadon Gym

It was a beautiful day outside, and as such, within the Celadon Gym, it also was a beautiful day. The gym itself was built much like an intricate greenhouse, with lots of flowers and plants growing all about. The wonderful aroma in the air of the gym could even be found blocks away from where the gym stood.

On most days, the gym was full of a number of girls whom tended to the flowers and other plants within the gym, as well as the "monsters" that dwelt within the gym. But today, there was only one girl within the gym, lying down on a towel in the grass...

Snoring...

Gym Leader Erika probably should have invested in a better alarm clock...

"No no no no" Melanie whispered to Galv, shaking her head. She didn't want this to explode....

Jade giggled, turning from Gold and walking over to the much shorter boy. "Ohhhh so the cute little kid is trying to be noble...Or something. The best thing about rules are that they are open to interpretation....Melanie can't battle because she has prior...Obligations...Sorry kiddo."

Glaceon walked towards the boy, growling slightly. Like Melanie, the Pokemon didn't like people making Jade angry.

"You should keep moving..." the blue creature suggested, eying the boy dangerously.

Antoinette raised one of her blond eyebrows, crossing her arms.

“EAT US? Try it, you overgrown iguana! I’ll slice you to ribbons!” Leafeon growled, glaring at the dragon.

Antoinette snapped her fingers. “Leafeon! Stop it.” She looked over to Zar then, and nodded. “Alright… if you’re up for the challenge, let’s go. You can follow us over there.”

Espeon and Vaporeon gave low growls, but none of her foxes seemed to attack.

[…]

Red looked back over to Yellow and nodded. “Of course I’m joining! Professor Oak sent me a special invitation…” He then walked over and gave her another thumbs up.

“If you don’t want to join, nobody will force you… but if you have faith in your monster, you’ll do just fine.”

[Celadon City: Arena Gates]

Gold raised his eyebrow. Jade had an attitude, and she WAS here to compete. The boy gave a huge grin… until Jade was in his personal space, touching his face. Gold was pretty good about battles, and unafraid of fighting… but a girl touching him? Yeah, that was a bit out of his comfort zone.

“I-I-I… y-you…” Gold stammered, and then gulped.

[Oak’s Office]

Oak was very polite with Vidit, and thanked him for his time – but he refused to disclose any more than he had already, instead going back to his tea and sipping it a few times.

When Vidit left, Professor Oak gave a sigh. “At least he was far more polite than I expected. Some might have tried force to learn what I know…”

He sighed, and then looked to his grandson with a smile. “Ah, Blue! I’m glad you came, my boy. I certainly hope you’ll be in the tournament.”

He stood up and then walked over to Blue. “Would you care for some tea?”

When Blue mentioned Red, Oak gave another smile. “Oh yes, I know he’s here. I practically demanded that he come. I have high hopes for that boy… and for you too, of course!”

The Vidit of Light - May 17, 2010 02:43 AM (GMT)

Vidit returned KxS' wave with a slight smile and nod.

Did he know that girl? She looked familiar...

(The idea is that Vidit was reassigned from Rapid Island to the Kanto region or something...does Rapid Island even exist in this? If so, is Vidit just seeing "mirrors" of the other SK&WS crew? XD)

He even passed by the gym, noticing a rather sweet smell coming from within...it was pleasant. Maybe he'd stop by there sometime and see if that was, well, REALLY a place where battles between creatures were supposed to be fought.

He soon had arrived somewhere. Where the rumors pointed to-his next objective.

Celedon City-Game Corner

Ah, an arcade! Vidit felt very much in his element here. However, he knew he had to focus. The mission came first-although playing a few games was by no means a bad thing, maybe it would help him blend in and get the lay of the land.

He browsed the aisles, looking for a good game, getting the lay of the land, and eventually approached the counter to buy some tokens.

He noticed a bunch of people with the letter "R" on their shirt in the back.

Seriously...? Are they even trying? ...am I the first person to notice this?

As flashbacks from his previous post began to haunt him, he saw someone else-a rather strange, even sinister looking girl.

He pressed a few buttons on his PDA, and brought up a profile.

"Perfect match. Suspect confirmed. Name: "Sabrina". Rocket operative. Approach with caution. Suspect allegedly posses considerable psychic powers in addition to possessing a monster-girl which possibly uses the dark arts." his PDA read.

Vidit tensed up. He couldn't just grab his suit and go blasting away...there were too many civilians around. Collateral harm would be far too high.

He walked over to a game of Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (that game PWNS) and started playing, occasionally glancing back at the Rockets from time to time (but trying not to draw attention).

((Just so this is very clear to everyone: This is NOT a SK&WS RP, nor does it take place in the established SK&WS universe or canon.))

[Celadon Game Corner]

On the wall, a camera with a blinking red light was trained at part of the room. Other cameras covered the rest of the room… all in all, there was not a single spot in the game corner not being monitored by the ‘security’ cameras.

In the basement, a man watched. He was Giovanni, the owner of the Game Corner. He was a beloved, respected and revered man who served as the Gym Leader in Viridian City. He was also a wealthy philanthropist who had donated to and raised money for more than one hundred charities.

“… Keep an eye on the man who just walked in.” Giovanni called to ‘security’. “If he starts poking his nose where it doesn’t belong, take care of him.”

Jimi paused, waving to Kxs as she passed by, turning around and blinking.

“What, do you want to say hello to that girl?” Kitsune Blademaster wondered, as they walked along the streets.

“Huh? What, no! We have to register for the tournament first...” Jimi muttered.

“Well...if you think I'd be good, then I'll give it my best shot then!” Yellow spoke up, nodding happily.

Galv frowned, shaking his head, then stepped towards Melanie.

“Call me Galv,” Galv told the girl, holding out his hand to shake, “Why are you hanging around someone like this? She your sister or something?”

Gym

“Come on, we can do this buddy!” a gruff voice said, as three figures entered the Gym.

“I don't see why we have to...I'd rather just go home...” a human sighed, as they made their way through.

The first voice, a Charizard named Sol, grinned, shaking his head, “We can do it!”

“Fine, fine...” Edda Adwr sighed. They moved through the gym, then paused, seeing Erika.

“...Hello?” Edda wondered, “Are you awake? Hello?”

-Oak's Office-

“Of course I'll be in the tournament! This time I'll be sure to beat Red. Count on it,” Blue nodded to his grandfather.

Steven Stone continued to look around the game corner himself, playing some random games.

“Hmmm...Almost enough...”

Vidit noticed the cameras, and looked at a few of them. Still, he was wary...but what could he do but keep playing?

"Be careful-they're watching you."

Cortana's text appeared on his PDA. She was keeping an eye on the surroundings and the surrounding people.

Vidit took this into consideration.

He was without his battle suit, but he was armored...he had his glove in his backpack, and his "paranormal countermeasures" in a pouch on his belt just in case anything like THAT showed up...

...still, he was kind of edgy, though he tried not to show it.

Melanie hesitated when Galv offered his hand before shaking it. Misdreavus floated around the boy, inspecting him. She seemed happy enough with the boy, and decided to answer his question.

"She's her-"

"Assistant" Melanie answered shyly "I just started working for her. You know, carrying stuff, keeping up with her schedule-

"Oh Melanie you don't need to BORE him with the details..." Jade turned back to Gold who looked a bit flustered. "What's the matter? Never had a pretty girl talk to you before?"

Celadon City: Arena Boxes

Misty made it to the massive arena where the battles would be held and was instantly escorted to a massive private box reserved for gym leaders and VIPs. It didn't look like anyone was here yet.

"Man...I'm hungry. Let's get some food." Spur looked over at the food they had...

Quote glanced over to Curly, a small smile on his face.

"Can we get some food already?!" Fireball impatiently growled, Quote quickly placing him in his Pokeball. He didn't want him to cause a ruckus...

"Piiiii..." Nemesis was atop Quote's head, somewhat patiently waiting for food.

Spur turned to Curly, looking at her... "Hm...hug?" She wondered if she was as strong as Quote...

Bubbler was sitting on Quote's shoulder, Nemesis doing the same. Rocket was simply walking alongside Quote, a small smile on her face. "Eating contest?" Bubbler inquired to Nemesis, the Pikachu shaking his head.

"Nah...trust me, you? In a eating contest? If that stomach of yours got any bigger, I think that shell would break." Nemesis said, Bubbler's eyes widening.

"You little-c'mere!" Quote shook his head, gently picking up Nemesis and Bubbler by the tail (wasn't affected by electricity that much, due to being an android).

"Hm." Blade was leaning against yet another wall, now in the restaurant...He had a thing for leaning against walls.

Rocket tapped his leg with her paw, seeing the Grovyle. "...Why do you lean on walls all the time?" Rocket inquired, Blade freezing for a second...

"...Becauseurusei, Rocket. Becauseurusei." Blade responded, his eyes closed in slight irritance.

"Yare, yare...mendokusei..." Rocket replied, turning away.

"What was that?" Blade cocked an eyebrow.

"Nothing, nothing..." Rocket walked away, Blade sighing.

"Whatever..."

*snooooooooore*

The girl remained sleeping as the Edda and his monsters entered. THey probably should have had a better security system installed for the gym, as well.

“...Hello?” Edda wondered, “Are you awake? Hello?”

Erika groggily woke up, looking all around for whatever it was that woke her up... Until she saw the silhouette of a human. She then jumped right up, connecting into the human figure's face with a strong right uppercut, likely sending the teenager flying.

"I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM HERE, YOU PERVERTED OLD MAN!!!" she yelled out as she attacked.

Soon thereafter, however, she noticed that whom she just punched out wasn't exactly who she thought it was.

"Ummm... Oh dear..."

[Celadon City]

“AHOY!”

A young man with a goatee appeared on the streets, looking from left to right. He wore a headband, and pirate pants. Which are just normal pants, but he was a pirate.

His name was Stowen, Captain of a Wailord named Bubby. He was a mighty pirate with a giant vegetable turtle. It was Torterra, and Stowen was riding on his head.

So to summarize – Stowen the pirate was riding on Tortrerra, the vegetable pokemon.

“Mwahhahahaahh! A tournament should be great fun, and then we’ll have our fill of tacos and soda!” Stowen laughed, taking a swig of root beer.

[Celadon City: Arena]

Gold still seemed flustered, and when Jade turned back to him he groaned. It seemed she had found his one weakness, and that was never good for someone who was about to enter a tournament.

“I… I… Well…” Gold shook his head. “You don’t bother me at all! Don’t think you’re affecting me!”

[Celadon City: Arena Boxes]

“… You are Misty of Cerulean City, are you not?”

It was a tall, blond man in a military uniform. He was Lt. Surge, the Gym Leader from Vermillion City. At his side was a large orange mouse, a big red and yellow ball, and a furry yellow… thing. (Electabuzz)

“Nice ta seeya kid. I met your sisters once.” Surge nodded.

Tense as he was, Vidit decided he had to try something. This REALLY looked like the place, anyway.

Begin scanning-I want to know if this game room is all there is here. he texted into his PDA.

Cortana would begin scanning the area for secret passages and what have you. She may or may not have been blocked by any Rocket equipment in the area, or she may have revealed something that would confirm that this was indeed a gateway to a criminal base.

In either case Vidit would have to be back.

“Nice punch!” Sol said, giving Erika a claws up, “If your Monster battles as well as you, I bet we'll have an awesome battle!”

Sol was not aware of the tournament right now though...But if Erika mentioned it, he'd probably drag Edda to go sign up for it.

Galv blinked, raising his eyebrow at Jade.

“So, Melanie, if you're still learning how to fight, why not a battle? I'm sure I can give you a few pointers.”

“You don’t bother me at all! Don’t think you’re affecting me!”

"Oh really....Because I think i'm affecting you...Quite a bit actually..." She leaned in towards the boy, staring at him with her creepy pink eyes.

Melanie gave a tiny cough "Miss. Jade, shouldn't we check you into the hotel?"

Glaceon agreed "If we take any longer you'll miss the press...I heard there are a lot of famous names staying at the inn"

Jade blinked, looking over to her Pokemon. "Oh yes! I forgot about that, oh I wonder if anyone will ask for my autograph!"

Melanie let out a tiny sigh. Jade had been distracted which meant they were all safe for the time.

“So, Melanie, if you're still learning how to fight, why not a battle? I'm sure I can give you a few pointers.”

Oh dear. The focus had been shifted off of Jade. They were doomed.

"Why are you so intrested in seeing what little Melanie has when it comes to fighting boy?" Jade asked, looking annoyed.

Melanie was desprately trying to think of a way to turn the spotlight on her.

"Because...He...Really...Wants to battle...You?" She tried, looking worried.

Jade's expression lit up...Then she narrowed her eyes at the red head boy. "I like that idea..."

“… You are Misty of Cerulean City, are you not?”

Melanie had briefly met all of the gym leaders at one time or another, most often in formal events and fancy parties. She usually was overshadowed by her older (and much louder) sisters and never got past a small hello to the other trainers.

She remember Lt. Surge from one of those parties. She smiled, and went over to the man.

"I am" she answered "It is nice seeing you here. Are you battling or just watching the competition?"

Togetic gave a happy sounding hello as well to the tall man and his Pokemon.

He never finished the sentence as Zay soundly smacked the dragon across the back of its head, drawing the irate creature's attention towards himself.
