Title: Shadow the Hedgehog *Spoilers*
Description: I've got a few things.
Mist Falcon - July 9, 2005 03:02 AM (GMT)
shadow's supposed to have guns......combat wont be what it used to....
BlueRush - July 9, 2005 03:17 AM (GMT)
I think it's going to a mix of the three types: Speed, obviously, but the vids show him flying on his rocket shoes and blasting with a gun. It's all three Sonic Heroes guys in one! I think it's gonna be a great game- aliens, Eggman, and GUN all fighting, with multiple endings like Sonic CD!! WOOT! -shadow- I'll post a video in a sec. ^_^
.metalknuckles.
Clown Prince of Crime - July 9, 2005 05:37 AM (GMT)
Guns, eh? Hmmm... wouldn't it be cool if -fang- made an appearance? Well, his obscurity won't let him! XD
But, a man can dream...
On the other hand... the Chaotix Team (sans Mighty) being on Sonic Heroes? I never saw that coming. Or Amy coming back in Sonic Adventure, didn't see it, either. So, who knows?
Mist Falcon - July 9, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
yeah! it would make a good twist if mack showed up. but i think he might be for the comix.
Crystal Rose - July 9, 2005 03:34 PM (GMT)
I cannot wait for Shadow the Hedgehog to come out. He has so many cool weapons (lasers, guns, and whatever you can pick up and smack at people!)
I hope we get to see some of the other characters, at least Sonic, in this.
For some reason I picture an apperance by Rouge, probably because of the dark theme of it all.
Either way its still gonna be great. I can wait to see Shadow fighting GUN!!!
BlueRush - July 9, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
Contrary to what a game not based on Sonic might seem like, I think this is actually a return to its roots- a single-player game, flying solo. Sonic can't do that now with all his buddies, but Shadow can.
Actually, Nack was in Sonic the Fighters, though Archie has used him a lot more than Sega. Though in the games he's known as Fang the Sniper. I wonder, in the English version of StF, is he known as Nack the Weasel? Because I don't think Archie just made up "Nack".....
Well, back on topic, like C_R was saying I hear he'll be able to pick up weapons and use them. Where are all these buttons going to fit?
Kimiko - July 9, 2005 04:33 PM (GMT)
Perhaps with the arrival of teh PS3 will be a new controller with buttons on all sides XD
Well, this sounds like a game for meh brother. It has Shadow, weapons, and it's a video game. Yup. Definatly a David thing.
Crystal Rose - July 9, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
Im allmost (allmost) possitive you see or fight Sonic in this game, but hey maybe im wrong.
Hehehe I like that Sega picked Shadow for a game, he doesnt care if he has to be violent so it just makes things more fun in the game.
Mist Falcon - July 9, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
i love shadow..... -shadow- -shadow- -shadow- -shadow- -shadow-
oh what i mean is exactly what someone said about him flying solo, and you dont have the choice to fight or not, so you HAVE to fight. It creates a challenge.
NO CHALLENGE IS A MATCH FOR -shadow- -shadow- -shadow- -shadow- !!!!!!!

Ya, though his first appearance was in Sonic Triple Trouble (known in Japan as Sonic and Tails 2). Dunno whether Sega or Archie made the name Nack, though... honestly, I have no clue.
Btw, if you play Shenmue (the first one), there's a lot of Sonic UFO plushies you can get at the arcade! One of them is of Fang!
Cojo - July 11, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
I am against the idea of weapons in Sonic/Shaodw games. It ruins the Sonicness of it.
BlueRush - July 11, 2005 06:34 PM (GMT)
I understand where you're coming from, cojo, but it seems weapons like that are a part of the Sonic continuity now. In any case, I'm sure a major goal will be to keep this feeling like a Sonic game, so I imagine the gameplay to be more like Sonic Heroes Dark Team than Sonic Adventure E102.
Mist Falcon - July 22, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
well, yeah, i basically dont know what the guns are for. perhaps for long range damage, just so he doesnt have 2 go up to the enemy and whack him on the head and be an open target.
then again, maybe you can still do the old attacks.
so, cojo, maybe the gun thing will be a little optional.
just dont get your hopes up.really, we can only rely on our thoughts for specultion until it comes out.
Clown Prince of Crime - August 2, 2005 01:08 AM (GMT)
Well, that's why this game has Shadow in it... if they wanted to not have that stuff, it would have been a Sonic game. The reason they have Shadow is try out new stuff. Besides guns, there's also gonna be tanks and other vehicles. Of course, ya, there will be a lot of running, too.
Also, there's multiple endings based on the actions you choose throughout the game. In every level, you have to choose whether to have Shadow act as a hero, a villain, or just neutral. Every choice changes the course of the game, thus having several different possibilities.
Sonic also has a short appearance somewhere in the game, but besides him, and possibly Eggman, I don't think any other familiar faces will be making an appearance. Though, that's just what I think. All the other stuff I said, though, is pretty much fact, according to several previews I've read.
This game is supposed to be a lot different from Sonic games, and it's supposed to be darker, too. Perhaps maybe it might even get a T rating, though it's too soon to tell and the ESRB aren't always predictable.
Crystal Rose - August 2, 2005 01:27 AM (GMT)
I was thinking it would get a T rating as well, A game with that many weapons will be like that even though I highly doubt the weapons will be killing people including blood and gore.
lol this will be the first T rated Sonic game maybe
Cojo - August 2, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
I still wish Shadow didnt have to get a gun.
Clown Prince of Crime - August 2, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Shadow's much different from Sonic, though. Sonic probably would never use a gun, but Shadow's a different hedgehog, despite coincidentally looking a lot like Sonic. ;)
And as I said, the gun isn't the only thing he uses. There's a bunch of other things he uses, too. This whole game is pretty much to show how different he is from Sonic, and also to explore more of his backstory, or so I heard.
Mist Falcon - August 2, 2005 02:52 AM (GMT)
Yeah, some of us looked at nintendo power.
Cojo - August 2, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
I have too Ima just sayin that I think the whole idea of weapons besides robots in a game is ruining the Sonicness or Shadowness of a game.
Crystal Rose - August 2, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
Yeah I agree,
Shadow is so strong enough without any weapons to kick butt ^^
hmmm but of course Ive been kinda curious about the weapons, I wanna try it out ^^
Mist Falcon - August 2, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
cojo, we understand what you are trying to say. Just, some of us are neutral, and will go for either. I go for mre of a Shadow-without guns thing, but maybe guns.........let's give it a chance. i'm Like C_R. I like to try new things, but I still stickwith the older stuff too.
Clown Prince of Crime - August 2, 2005 08:24 PM (GMT)
Ya, I mean, this game is a Shadow game, the first of its kind. You have to expect it to be more than just a Sonic game with Shadow in it.
Besides that, Sega hasn't really let us down before.
Anywho, to add to that, I think these new, more powerful enemies I just found out about that he has to face might be the reason he needs weapons:
Shadow is more of a nemesis to Sonic rather than a true enemy; they may be adversaries but there is a mutual respect between the two of them. As the story and game progresses, more and more of Shadow’s past is revealed. As such, Sonic and other favorite characters from the Sonic series, such as Tails, Knuckles and yes, Dr. Eggman, all play an integral part in the story. It’s up to the player whether they are friend or foe. Dr. Eggman has always been after the chaos emeralds for himself, but Shadow needs them to unravel the mysteries of his past, so inevitably they will come into conflict somewhere along the line. Sonic certainly plays a key role as you uncover Shadow’s past, but the real enemy in this game are the Black Creatures…
So, from what I've read, the main enemy in the game seems to be a mysterious race of alien creatures. Incidentally, Eggman also seems to be at war with these things.
Crystal Rose - August 4, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
Clown Prince of Crime - August 4, 2005 10:01 PM (GMT)
Yep. Eggman's going at it with GUN, as well.
Crystal Rose - August 4, 2005 10:03 PM (GMT)
O.O With GUN? Awesomeness!! Ive got to get this game!!
GoldenSama - August 5, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
GUN, aliens, Eggman and Sonic, Tails and Knuckles!?
Dude. Mark me down. I'm buyin' it. PLEASE tell me it will eventually be on PS2.
And if not... eh, I need to get a Gamecube anyway to get the new Mario games. XD
Crystal Rose - August 5, 2005 12:42 PM (GMT)
Yep its going to be on GC,PS2, and XB ^^ I think it comes out in November though
Thats a long time from now........ >.<
Clown Prince of Crime - August 29, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)
It may technically be grave-digging... but I would prefer that to starting a new topic about the same thing. *ahem* Anywho, for those of you interested, here's an interview from IGN with Takashi Iizuka about what we can expect from Shadow the Hedgehog.
| QUOTE |
IGN: How did the Shadow project get started?
Iizuka: We wanted to expand the Sonic franchise by offering a more mature game with features that has never been possible before in a Sonic game. With this in mind, we decided that giving Shadow his own title was the way to go!
In Shadow, the player is given the opportunity to decide Shadow's personality and unveil the truth behind the mysteries that shroud our renegade hedgehog. We were also able to create a charcacter that has the same Sonic speed combined with never-before-seen abilities - weapons, vehicles, and power-ups.
IGN: How did the new morality system come about and how does it come into play?
Iizuka: Shadow is a true rebel and is extremely mysterious. From the beginning, people have questioned whether Shadow is good or evil. In this adventure, we allow player to explore the mysteries of his past. The player must help Shadow remember and aid him through his journey, as he struggles to discover his true meaning.
IGN: In addition to the stable of pistols and machineguns, what kind of weaponry can players expect?
Iizuka: Guns are just one type of weapon - Shadow also has gadgets, alien weapons, and environmental pick-up items like poles, sticks and debris. There are more than 30 different weapons, gadgets and items for the player to use and more than 10 different types of vehicles they'll be able to commandeer.
IGN: What kind of mission structure can players expect?
Iizuka: We tried to differentiate the game in very specific ways concerning the use of good vs. evil. Examples include:
1) Each story's progression is dependant on the choices that each player makes during the course of the game. Unlike previous games we've created, stage order, mid-boss levels, and of course endings, will all be affected by the decisions the gamer makes. 2) Shadow's appearance does not physically change as he progresses through the game. What is affected is the level of "special powers" that increases, as he develops as either an evil villain or a true hero. 3.) We also have mission NPC's at the beginning of each stage. Shadow will meet both an evil and a good NPC that will provide his mission at the beginning of each stage. If the player decides not to choose either mission, they will continue the game through the "normal" path.
IGN: How many stages are there and will players progress the game in linear fashion?
Iizuka: The player does progress through the game in linear fashion, but is given the ability to choose his path during that course. With more than 23 levels and 50+ missions to choose from, the game delivers dramatic sequences of events that expand into different paths depending on how you play the game.
IGN: What can players expect from the environments in the game in terms of interactivity and obstacles?
Iizuka: There is a fully interactivity between Shadow and his environments, not only in terms of gameplay mechanics but how obstacles in his world can be used as weapons or means to navigate through each stage.
IGN: Were there movies or films that inspired the look or direction of Shadow?
Iizuka: We use a variety of different mediums to gather inspiration from, but the true ideas…the heart of Shadow…comes from the brilliant minds of our internal art department. I can, however, say that we did reference films like Underworld, Constantine and even Terminator series while creating concept art for Shadow. These movies and more were used to create the image of what we thought Shadow and his world would be.
IGN: Is it possible to play as multiple characters?
Iizuka: Shadow already offers a deep and involving storyline that unfolds with various paths and endings Thus, the primary adventure and gameplay revolves around our star, Shadow. If we decided to allow a gamer to play multiple characters, we feel it would take away from the ultimate goal. However, depending on which mission you choose, the player will always be accompanied by one of the many cast members of the Sonic series.
The heart of the game is all about high-speed action and it's been challenging to balance the design of a new style of gameplay that includes weapons and vehicles but that's also what's been so exciting. Shadow, like Sonic is known for his speed, his power and his destructive nature.
IGN: Are there differences between the GameCube, PS2 and Xbox versions of the game?
Iizuka: The game will be available for all three platforms will release simultaneously. No exclusive content is planned for any of the platforms. We want to create a seamless experience across all three platforms so that our fans will enjoy the same game no matter what platform they own.
IGN: What do you expect players will enjoy most about Shadow: the traditional Sonic elements or the new weapons and morality system?
Iizuka: Shadow the Hedgehog represents the first of its kind in the Sonic franchise, which means there are a lot of different features that players will enjoy. The favourite will most likely be the fact that in Shadow the team blended high-speed action with weaponry and vehicles. Additionally, the ability to choose Shadow's path will be a lot of fun. |

GoldenSama - October 31, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
So I'm at Walmart buying my Gameboy-Gamecube adapter today, when I see one of those display gamecubes with the demo games. They have a movie of the new "Shadow the Hedgehog" game, avaliable November 17.
DUDE.
DUDE. FREAKIN' AWESOME.
SOFINGCOOL!
While Knuckles will always be my favorite, no matter what, I must admit Shadow is doing a good job of making me love him. I saw the game demo movie, and dude. He turns red in one scene and blows a bunch of stuff up. And he has a big laser gun, and a machine gun (what is up with all the guns? o.O) and there's one awesome looking scene where Sonic is being beaten up by a big red and brown monster that looks kinda like a super-pimped-out chaos, and Shadow is looking at Sonic and the monster.
All I can say -- time to start saving money, cause I'm buying this one.
Crystal Rose - October 31, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
I so cannot wqait ^_^ Only 18 days to go!!!!!
This is just a good month! First Shadow and then Harry Potter 4 a day later ^_^

Mist Falcon - October 31, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
SHADOWSHADOWSHADOWSHADOW.....and......moreSHADOW!!! AND HARRY POTTER!! YAY
Celeste - November 1, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
I've seen alot of clips, pics and info on it,I hope it's as good as it looks ^_^ but what I'm wondering is...what's the ultimate lifeform doing with a gun? :P
GoldenSama - November 1, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
For some reason Shadow uses guns. I saw at least two varieties in the preview demo at Walmart. An electric gun that reminded me of laser tag, and a machine gun that looks like, well, a machine gun.
Personally I'm not big on Shadow having guns, but whatever.
Crystal Rose - November 1, 2005 11:20 PM (GMT)
Yeah tons of guns....
And knifes......
And even a lead pipe ^_^
Not to mention a flying evil monster he rides along with his motorcycle
BlueRush - November 2, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
:3 Really? It shall be Shadow's dragon and I shall name it Norbert. ^_^
I don't really mind how ridiculous it is, as long as it's fun. ^_^ He has rocket boots too... which leads me to beleive that speed + flying boots/dragon + guns = all powers of Sonic Heroes in one guy! :D
Awe-sum! :D
Crystal Rose - November 2, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
heheheh Norbert the evil flying dragon ^_^
Gosh everytime I watch the preview I crack up and my mum thinks im a moron....all because at the beging when he has the big gun and he makes `the clicky noise with it ^_^
*click click*
GoldenSama - November 2, 2005 07:07 PM (GMT)
Dude. Shadow gets a dragon. That's pretty sweet.
I think this game'll be good, plus I want to see how it effects the Sonic storyline. I mean, more info on Shadow could totally change the whole posistion on Shadow in the story. Maybe he'll become an official hero, or maybe he'll go totally evil. I dunno, but I can't wait to see what happens.
Mist Falcon - November 2, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
Actually, I think he was riding an alien in the video clip.
