Authors Note: eh, my writings a little rusty, so this probably has a few mistakes...it's probably a bit confusing too, but bear with me, I'll try and clear everything up in a few chapters.

Chapter 1: The Clone

“Alright Tails, we get it! All systems are go, now do this thing already! I didn’t come here to here about your dumb machine!!”

“Fine, if you don’t appreciate fine sience, Knuckles, then I’ll just get on with it!” Tails said ruggedly. He pulled out a piece of his hair, and put it in a small slot on the machine infront of them all, in Tails’ workshop. “Innitiating. Cross your fingers.”

The machine started up. Clicks, beeps, and whistles filled the room. First, a large, tube-like structure filled with green goop. Then, a lot of numbers, statistics, appeared on the large moniter.

The gang watched, awaiting what would happen. For a long time, that’s what they did. Watched. Eventually, a small yellow ball, barely visable, appeared in the long tube. Shortly after, there was a long “boop”, and the machine shut down.

“What happened, Tails?” Sonic himself asked, pointing at the now black screen.

“It’s no use! Theres not enough power to support the clone, not even when it’s in the embryonic phase.” Tails replied, while he tapped his forehead in deep thinking.

Very unexpectedly, a voice came from the back of the room. “Why not use a Chaos Emerald?” This was from Shadow, who leaned against the back wall in the corner, arms crossed. Normally he wouldn’t even show up for such a thing, but he did. Perhaps it was intrest, or perhaps he was just trying to get closer to Sonic. Who knows? He was here, and that was that.

Tails stood up instantly. “That’s a great idea Shadow! Sonic, how long do you think it will take to find a Chaos Emerald!?”
Sonic started heading towards the door. “I’ll be back soon. Two days, tops.”

A week later, the Chaos Emerald, red, was found, and Tails had upgraded the machine to use it’s power. Everybody was back at the workshop, and Tails was tat-tat-tating away on the keyboard. He plucked a piece of hair, said “Innitializing” and started the machine.

It started a lot like last time. Beeps, clicks, whistles. But now there was an extra sound. Or rather, a hum. Almost an aura of sound coming from the Chaos Emerald. A few minutes later, the small ball of life energy apeared in the tube. But this time, it was red.

“Strange…” Tails commented. “Oh well, I’m sure it will clear itself up.”

“Well, if it’s working perfectly then why’s it RED Tails? Don’t tell me you cloned me instead!” Knuckles said. This was about a day later.

“I’m not sure…It’s odd, but It’s definantly cloning me, not you…Maybe it’s a slight misfunction, but everything else is operating past what we expected. The progress it’s undergoing is amazing!”

“Please, Shadow, just a hair! The amount of energy coming from the clone at the embryonic stage is amazing! I think the Chaos Emerald is infusing some of it’s own energy inside it! All I need to do is extract the Chaos Control gene from your DNA, and see if I can give it to the clone!”

“No way, Tails. My genes are my own. Now get out of my face, I was just checking to see if the Emerald worked. I’m leaving now”

“F-fine! Leave! I’ll just make my own Chaos gene artificially!”

What am I…where am I? This…this is existence, but..why can’t I move. Only think. Such power here. Is…is that power me? Wait…I…I think I can USE this power. But…how…when I can’t even awaken?

A week later, the cloning process was almost done. The clone was fully grown. All they were waiting for was the body to be filled with Life. It looked like Tails, only red. Sonic was watching it float, while Tails went over the statistics.

“It’s strange Sonic. At first, it was rapidly gaining energy. But now it’s slowed down to almost nothing…”

“Uh-huh.” Sonic said, not really interested in anything but watching the clone go up and down slowly in the tank. He could feel the amount of energy it possesed. It was…like another Chaos Emerald entirely. Only different. Alive, and it’s energy wasn’t infinite…it was spendable.

“And I know it’s not done yet. Otherwise it would be starting to…breath. Not really, but exhaling the empty gas in it’s lungs, showing it’s ready to breath. I’m getting worried that even the Chaos Emerald won’t make this work…”

“Don’t worry Tails, I’m sure it will all work ou-did that thing just move!?” Sonic said, pointing at one of the tails of the clone.

“Of course not! If it moved, the screen would show it, Sonic. It’s not alive yet.”

But Tails was wrong. The eyes of the clone snapped open, and the two heroes jumped backwards, their eyes wide. It opened it’s mouth, and moved it like it was saying something. Bubbles gushed from it, and then, the glass broke, and a very powerful wind was unleashed into the room. Both Sonic and Tails were knocked back into the wall. The clone rolled out onto the floor, flowing with the green liquid it was contained in. It stood up, and jumped in the air. There was a purple flash, and the clone was gone.

Hmm! Pretty good, I must say. Interesting premise. At first I thought it was creative how you were leaving the reason *why* they were making the clone until the end of this part... but then you never put it in. u_u; That woulda been a nice addition. You didn't need as many ~~~ dividers as you had, and while the dialogue was good you should have more paragrapphy content in there.

Otherwise, very good! I look forward to seeing the rest. :)

And why comes in chapter 2! Don't worry, I didn't plan on keeping you all in the dark!

but your right, I had too much dialouge. Hopefully when theres more going on I'll be able to make it more narration.

If you use [*hr] without the * inside it, then it will make an automatic divider.

I like it so far, interesting start. A clone, huh? And what would the purpose of one, I wonder...?

Well, I guess we'll find out soon.

It's been to long, I'll update on monday, and then do a weekly update (On either mondays or saturdays) from there on out. Just FYI.
