Title: Sonic X Series Discussion
Description: Come and chat!

GoldenSama - July 6, 2005 10:42 PM (GMT)
Meh. I figured we had threads for the games, and for the comics, but nobody had made a thread for the Sonic cartoons. So using my super flan-tastic powers, I've come to save the day! (inside joke. XD)

Annnnnyway... what's the opinion on Sonic X? I'll be honest, I've only managed to wake up early enough to watch it on a few occasions, but from what I've seen, I've liked it. That kid (Chris I think his name is) gets on my nerves a bit, but I thought it wasn't half bad.

What about y'all?

Clown Prince of Crime - July 6, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
If I could wake up in the morning, I'd catch it... I've only seen moments of 2 episodes. One had Eggman talking on a giant monitor to a city, but I couldn't hear what he was saying (this was in a breakroom at a job I had a long time ago), so it wasn't enough to drive an opinion on it.

I wasn't too impressed with what I saw with the other episode, since Sonic was in it for 2 seconds, and most of it was all that Chris kid trying to hide Amy and Cream or something. I'm willing to give this show a shot, but I need to actually wake up early enough... and hope that the show isn't Chris X, instead of Sonic X.

GoldenSama - July 6, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
Mmm. I don't like Chris. He irks me.

Some of the episodes seem to be more story based, while others are just filler (as is the way with most shows). I'm not too fond of filler, usually, but it can be okay.

I dunno. I like parts of the episodes. Eggman's henchmen robots and Chris all annoy me, but the stuff with Sonic, Knuckles, Amy and Rouge makes up for it IMO.

BlueRush - July 6, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
I record it, so I don't have to get up early. :P But I've only seen two eppies, both about some lava thing. It's nice seeing the characters come to life, but all those overlanders running around is a bit too much for me.

Heh, it's pretty good so far. ^_^

.metalknuckles.

Cojo - July 6, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
I though Chris was unneescary uniessary whatever, but that adds drama to the show.Too much drama to say so myself.

J0HA - July 6, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
I've actually only seen one episode, and I think it was the second one. If it's on DVD, I really need to get it. But I'll agree with you all and say that Chris is irking. I need to roll him down a mountain. Anyway, until I manage to get up early, I'll stick to the games. I'm jetlagged here so I'm always up at 3pm ;_;

Cojo - July 6, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
They have some of the fist season out on like 5 dvds but I only have 2 of them.

GoldenSama - July 6, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
I found a whole lot of episodes on VCD (the computer-only version of a DVD) on eBay, but it was in Japanese w/ subtitles, and it cost way too much money for me to afford. XD

Cojo - July 6, 2005 11:19 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah in japenese you can buy the whole series but like it is in 14 discs and each one is like 30 bucks each.

GoldenSama - July 6, 2005 11:34 PM (GMT)
If you buy the Japanese DVD's, yeah. But I mean VCD's. They're home-made by people, and only play on the computer. Although sometimes the quality isn't top notch, and the translations aren't always 100% acurate.... And it can get pricy... I bought Eps 1-134 of Inuyasha, plus the first two movies, on ebay for like, 70 bucks.

I found nearly all of Sonic X on there, but it's out of my current price range. >< Hahah... that's cause currently I have only twenty bucks. XD

Cojo - July 6, 2005 11:39 PM (GMT)
Whats inushasa?
And Sonic x is sortof slipping away in my eyes.

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
InuYasha's another anime, a pretty good one, though I haven't watched it in quite a while.

Meh. I like Sonic X, but then again, I haven't seen much of it, so I could wind up not liking it if I saw more of it. I dunno. I miss the old Sonic cartoon. I forget what it was called, but I remember watching that all the time as a kid. >< Can't find it on anymore, though.

BlueRush - July 7, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
Do you mean SatAm with the freedom fighters or AoStH the silly one or... Sonic Underground?

It's nice seeing the game world come to life- because that's what Sonic X is, I think- an enactment of the game world.

Just think- all this diversity came from the simplicity and therefore the variety of interpretation of the original Sonic games. If the first Sonic games were as clear as Sonic Adventure, the whole basis for Archie Comic Sonic would have never been considered. But because it was vague, everyone had different interpretations, leading to today's jumble of universes, Sonic X's finally being the only one to truly match the games.

Cojo - July 7, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
It is on at 9:30 and 10:00 on channel 13 pacific tim zone.

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 12:34 AM (GMT)
Umm... I'm not sure which one I mean. XD

It was the one with Sally and the Freedom Fighters. I used to watch that all the time.

Cojo - July 7, 2005 12:44 AM (GMT)
That would be Satam

BlueRush - July 7, 2005 01:02 AM (GMT)
^ What he said. ^_^;

If you liked that the comics are just right for you. ^_^

...Oh, and if anyone tells you I'm being paid by Archie, they're lying.

Lying, I tell you. :ph43r:

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 01:05 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that'd be the one. XD

Cojo - July 7, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
Give me some of your money.

BlueRush - July 7, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)

Give me some of your money.

What money? There's no money here, I'm not being paid! :o *innocence*

Also, as for Sonic X, can we get C_R in here to give us the basic lowdown on the whole thing? She knows, like, everything, I think. C_R? Can you hear me? If so, come bail us out! :D .metalknuckles.

Clown Prince of Crime - July 7, 2005 06:53 AM (GMT)
Well, the original games that came out before Sonic Adventure did all have plots and stories that weren't so vague, they just weren't very expanded. But they all did have plots, nontheless. Allow me to summarize the begining of each game.

Sonic 1: South Island is a veritable treasure trove of ancient ruins and jewels. Somewhere on the island sleep the six Chaos Emeralds, which hold legendary power. The Emeralds distribute energy to all things, and enable the advancement of technology. Unfortunately, there are those who would use that power for their own evil designs. Dr. Eggman, a brilliant scientist, dreams of world domination and the destruction of his long-time nemesis. Eggman intends to use the Chaos Emeralds to help him achieve his goals, and so he establishes a massive base on South Island. He's turning the hapless residents into batteries to power his robot slaves, and is tearing the island apart in search of the Emeralds.

It happens that a certain speedy blue hedgehog has gotten wind of the turmoil on South Island, and has rushed to the scene to save his friends, Flicky, Pocky, Pecky, Ricky, Kucky, Picky, and Rocky. The island is a disaster, but there is still one hope: what Eggman doesn't realize is that the Chaos Emeralds exist within a torsion caused by the movement of South Island, and can't be found on the surface. If this heroic hedgehog can grab the jewels before Eggman, his game will be up. And so the stage is set for another confrontation between Dr. Eggman and his arch enemy: Sonic the Hedgehog!

Sonic CD: On one month of every year, a mysterious phenomenon occurs in the sky above Never Lake: a tiny, beautiful planet appears for a brief period of time. Known variably as the Little Planet or "The Planet of Miracles", the sphere is home to seven mysterious gems that control the passage of time. When these Time Stones awaken, miracles are sure to ensue... deserts turn to jungles and polluted waters become pure thanks to the time shift caused by the mystic jewels. It doesn't take an I.Q. of 300 to see the potential for gain, but Eggman's got one anyway so naturally he cites the Little Planet as the location for his next metallic fortress. As soon as the Planet appears, the Doc chains it down to a nearby mountain bearing, like everything else he builds, his own ugly mug. Eggman then takes advantage of the Little Planet's lack of boundaries on time and conquers the past so that he controls the future. Where's a speedy blue hedgehog when you need him?

Why, he's on his way to Never Lake, of course. With absolutely no clue of Eggman's latest ambition, Sonic arrives on the shores of the lake and is shocked to see the legendary Little Planet chained to the local terrain. It doesn't take our hero three guesses to figure out the perpetrator of this deed, so Sonic dashes up one of the chains to free the Planet and throw a wrench into his rival's latest scheme. Unfortunately, Eggman had been clued in to his enemy's arrival, and had ample time to make preparations...

Meanwhile, a young girl hedgehog named Amy Rose (aka Rosie the Rascal) is lured to the Little Planet by a card reading that told her of a destined encounter with Sonic. Once there, Amy becomes the perfect target for Eggman to make sure he's got Sonic's attention and to show off his latest, most sophisticated creation to date: Hyper Metal Sonic, a robot duplicate of our hedgehog hero, who was designed to match Sonic's every move and even surpass his own namesake speed. This deadly new rival kidnaps Amy in front of Sonic's very eyes, then escapes with his prize to Eggman's base.

Sonic 2: While cruising the planet in his biplane, the Tornado, Sonic notices smoke emanating from the plane's engine. He makes a forced landing on a nearby island that is particularly lush with greenery. He's landed on West Side Island, which, as the folklore goes, was once the home of a flourishing civilization. The people of the island utilized the power of seven mysterious stones for the advancement of their society. However, their success eventually lead to avarice, which did not sit well with the gods. The displeased deities took the stones away from the people and sealed them off.

After a few days on the island, it occurs to Sonic that he's being followed. His pursuer is a young fox with two tails, who, upon being discovered, dashes into the shade of a nearby tree. Sonic ignores him and zooms off, but the fox whirls his two tails like a propeller and follows the blue stranger at full speed. Sonic is impressed both with the fox's tenacity and his ability to keep up, so he decides to let him tag along. He learns that his new companion is named Miles Prower, though the animals of the island call him "Tails" after his unique mutation. Tails also seems to have a fascination with all things mechanical, and immediately falls in love with the Tornado.

While relaxing by the Tornado one day, Sonic and Tails are shaken by a huge explosion from the center of the island. The forest is ablaze and robots are scouring the area. It doesn't take Sonic three guesses to figure out who's behind the disruption: Dr. Eggman has caught wind of the Chaos Emerald legend, and is tearing the island apart in search of the legendary stones. He needs fuel for his Death Egg, a planet-sized space station with unthinkable power. Sonic and Tails take off to locate the Emeralds before Eggman, and squash his evil ambition once more.

Sonic 3: The story picks up right on the heels of Sonic 2. After being knocked clean out of the sky, Eggman's Death Egg crashes smack into a mysterious floating island: it's the legendary Angel Island, suspended in the sky. Mountains are crushed and forests are burned as Angel Island is pushed with the Death Egg into the sea, creating a massive tsunami but leaving the island floating safely on the ocean's surface.

Days later, Tails detects strong Emerald readings on his jewel radar from the direction of the floating island's crash site. Wondering if it has something to do with the tsunami he witnessed a few days prior, Tails gears up the Tornado and prepares to check it out.

Sonic, meanwhile, is chilling on the beach when he notices a Ring with strange carvings wash up. The Ring reminds him of a legend he'd once heard: the legend of a mysterious island that was once part of the main continent. The island was inhabited by a powerful race of people who had built a strong civilization using the power of "the mighty stone." The peace was shattered, however, when a faction of elders attempted to syphon the power of the "mighty stone" for their own selfish purposes. The stone supposedly exploded, wiping out the entire civilization. Time passed, and one day a god descended from the heavens and restored a part of the ancient civilization to Angel Island. Sonic and Tails, having nothing better to do, head out on their latest adventure.

As soon as Super Sonic dashes into the neighborhood, however, he's given a rude greeting by the local welcoming committee, which consists solely of Knuckles the Echidna. Knuckles socks the seven Chaos Emeralds clean out of Sonic's grasp and makes off with the precious stones before Sonic can say: "How do I get to South Island from here?" The fact is that Dr. Eggman has duped rad red into believing that Sonic and Tails are the villains. Being the guardian of Angel Island and its BIG secret, Knux immediately goes about giving the intruders a hard time. While Sonic and Tails are preoccupied with Knuckles, Eggman's busy repairing the Death Egg, as well as investigating a few of Angel Island's secrets...

Sonic & Knuckles: After interrupting the Death Egg's relaunch at Launch Base, Sonic and Tails fall back down to Angel Island... as does the Death Egg, this time landing smack in the crater of an active volcano. Ground zero for Sonic and Tails, meanwhile, are the lush mushroom forests in the center of the island. It's there they spy Knuckles just as he exits a secret passage. Heading in, they discover an unusual Special Stage Ring -- unusual in the fact that it's flashing multiple colors. A step inside, and they're warped to a strange chamber with a giant green Emerald in the center. Perhaps as a result of this giant Emerald, the seven Chaos Emeralds they've re-collected undergo a strange transformation...

Knuckles, by this point, is getting a little peeved and decides it's time to stop taking down names and start handing out punishments. So while Knuckles is doing the rounds with Sonic and Tails, who's keeping an eye on Eggman? The Death Egg's pretty smashed up now, but there is one final hope for Eggman: the legendary Master Emerald, which keeps Angel Island afloat. This puppy would be fuel enough for the Death Egg and then some. All parties arrive at the same place at the same time: the Hidden Palace Zone, resting spot of the Master Emerald. Sonic and Tails wail on Knuckles, but it's too late: Eggman's made his move and snatched the Master Emerald, right in front of rad red. The farce is over and the villain in this tale is made clear. Angel Island, without the Master Emerald keeping it afloat, has begun its rapid descent into the ocean. Knuckles leads Sonic and Tails to a hidden teleport that warps them up to the floating ruins of an ancient time: the Sky Sanctuary. There, it's a race to the revived Death Egg, which is gaining altitude every second. Unfortunately, Eggman's sent back a little friend to slow their progress: Mecha Sonic! After sending the faker to his final resting spot in the crumbling ruins of Sky Sanctuary, Sonic and Tails leap aboard the Death Egg and move in to Eggman's control deck.

Outer space serves as the arena for the final showdown, on a platform outside the Death Egg. The giant mechanical Eggman is back, this time powered by the Master Emerald. Uh-oh. After Sonic & Tails turn the Death Egg into space junk, the Doc makes off with the Master Emerald in the remains of his giant Eggman mech. Not quite that easy. Transforming into Super Sonic (or Hyper Sonic, if you got all the Super Emeralds), the blue blur gives chase, which would not normally be a big deal except that they're zooming the wrong way through a meteor shower. After having his escape pod trashed, the Doc makes one final run for it in his Egg Mobile. Sonic lays the smack down, reclaims the Emerald, and falls back into the atmosphere where he's picked up by Tails in the Tornado. After depositing the Master Emerald back onto the island, Sonic and Tails head off toward the horizon. As Angel Island begins its ascent, Knuckles dashes up to the Master Emerald and sees his new friends off with a smile and a wave. And all was peaceful once again... and the story continues a few years later in Sonic Adventure.

P.S.
Sorry for getting so horribly off-topic. ^_^;

From a website. These summaries are a combination of 2 things: What's seen in the games, and translations of the game summaries from the Japanese instruction manuals.

WHOWZa that was hot man. But didnt Sonic cd come after sonic and Knuckles?

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
Daaaaaaaaaaang dude. O.o I learned a lot from that. XD

Cojo - July 7, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
I learned a lot about Sonic and Knuckles dang now I know why I was having trouble back to the gamecube.

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 08:00 PM (GMT)
CPoC's like a Sonic teacher to the rest of us. XD

Cojo - July 7, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)
No cause My teachers sucked ! andCPOC doesnt suck.

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but I bet your teacher sucks 'cause they don't teach about Sonic. XD

If teachers taught about Sonic, then they'd be cool -- like CPoC -- but instead they choose to teach meaningless stuff like math.

Cojo - July 7, 2005 09:04 PM (GMT)
That is so true dude.

BlueRush - July 7, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
CPoC said that CD was in production before 2, just came out after. ^_^

Also, I saw an episode of Sonic X I recorded today.

IT STUNK!

They were sending everybody back to Mobius, because if they didn't time would stop and the dimensions would crumble, right? So everybody goes through and just before Sonic does, Chris SHUTS DOWN THE MACHINE AND STEALS SONIC!!!!

And get this! They travel all over, everybody's looking for them, and Sonic's all, "Hey Chris, I don't care. I'll do whatever you wanna do." No mention of the crumbling dimensions. And then Chris is all, "I don't care if time stops as long as I'm happy with you." <_<

I hope the other episodes are better than that one...

Cojo - July 7, 2005 09:41 PM (GMT)
Yes thatwas one of the corniest episodes I ever saw.

GoldenSama - July 7, 2005 09:47 PM (GMT)
I never saw that one... but can't really say I'm all that sorry to have missed it. XD

Chris irks me. I believe I said that already.

Cojo - July 7, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
Ive said it before but he totally makes the show worse.

Actually, Sonic CD came out after Sonic 2, however, the continuity takes place before Sonic 2 and after Sonic 1.

Sonic CD began production before Sonic 2 began production, and they finished Sonic CD after Sonic 2 had already been made and released. Sonic CD just... took a really long time to make. But, ya, it fits in-between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2.

And thanks for the compliments, guys. I try my best. ^_^;

Okay, I already made a missing poster for Antoine in my comic... you can probably guess who the next one will be, whenever I get another chance to add a poster in the background. XD

Cojo - July 7, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
You gave it away it will be Chris. -shadow- -supersonic- .hypersonic.

Chris and Antonie -- Let 'em be lost. XD

I'll organize a search party if Tails goes missing, but if it's just those two wackos, eh, forget 'em. :P
