This has not been confirmed by Sonic Team, SEGA or Nintendo.

However, several gaming sites have had polls asking who should be the new playable characters in Super Smash Brothers 3/Revolution. Sonic and Tails have been on nearly every list, and let's remember -- Sonic is now on Gamecube. For the first time ever, Sonic is on a Nintendo Platform.

Now whether or not Sonic even legally can, or ever will, appear in this or any other game in the Super Smash Bros. Series is remained to be seen; but as I found talk of this online, I thought I'd share it.

Of all non-nintendo characters, Sonic is probobly the most likely to be included in the next Smash Bros (him or Megaman).

Whether it'll actually happen or not, is completely up in the air, as is pretty much any character of Nintendo's, for inclusion in the next Smash Bros (except for the ones in Melee, since it is highly unlikely that any of them will get axed). Many of the public would really want Sonic in the next game, just because of the old SNES/Genesis rivalry in the early 90s, which is probobly why he'd be the most likely of non-nintendo characters to get in the game.

Though this is the same Nintendo that has deemed it not a good idea to bring the Mother 1+2 compilation (Mother 2 is known as Earthbound in the US, the game Ness came from) to the US, nor has said any plans on bringing Mother 3 here either... So following what the public wants isn't always going to happen (especially when it involves one company negotiating with another company).

legally, they can. But IMO they probably won't. Because SSB has allways been the Nintendo all-stars squaring off, and my buddy Sonic isn't a Nintendo all star, he's just awesome.

True, but I still think it best not to keep our hopes up. From what I read, for years now Hideo Kojima was begging Nintendo to put Snake into a Smash Bros. game, so I dunno... it's possible, but I dunno how likely it is... it may just be that Snake is the only non-Nintendo character in the game. I give Sonic a 50/50 chance. He could be in it, he might not be. Even if he DID get in it, it's likely he'd be the only one (but that's not to say other Sonic characters wouldn't appear alongside him much like Toad appeared alongside Peach in Melee).

Now, though I still think it's unlikely for Sonic to be in this game, if he were, perhaps Knuckles and Tails could be part of his moves. Like Tails helps him on his third jump, and there could be a move where he teams up with Knuckles. I think that'd be as far as it'd go IF Sonic were in the game... which now that I think about it I wish will be the case... those moves I just described would be awesome ways to sneak the other Sonic characters into the game, even if Sonic is the only one playable.

So long as we're discussing this, anyone else have any characters that they'd like to see in the game?

I'd love to see Mona in the game, either as a playable character or just as part of one or more of Wario's moves.

I believe it's already almost a given that Sonic will be in the game.

Theory: You have a game that you know a bunch of people are going to be excited about, and you have new third-party characters you want to show. Now the first characters that'll pop into most people's minds when they think "3rd party character in Smash Bros." is either Sonic or Megaman. What better way to reveal that some third-party characters are going to be in the game than by introducing someone NO ONE would expect in Smash Bros. (Solid Snake)? It builds a great deal of anticipation.

Plus, the guy who makes the MGS games was the person who wanted Snake in SSB, and I believe that in an interview somewhere, one of the top Sonic Team guys said that he would like to see Sonic to be in a SSB game... So yeah...

EDIT: And I kind-of doubt that if other Sonic characters aren't playable, that they would be hidden in special moves. But... Maybe a Sonic & Tails combo like the Ice Climbers? Now there's something that would be interesting...

As for other characters... Well I hope there ISN'T Waluigi, because I still don't see the reasoning why he needs to exist in the first place (because Luigi needs a rival doesn't cut it). Other than that... Geno, from Super Mario RPG, would be a nice addition.

Not that the gamecube graphics are bad, I'd just enjoy it if they'd all look sphecksi in Wii graphics.

And no, the Ice Climbers aren't bad. In fact, for me, they are on my second level of characters I'm good at (Marth, Samus, and Link being the first level). Hammers are always fun to attack with, especially when you have two! YOOOOOOOOOOPPPP!!!!!!

What does make me wonder, though, is Chef Kirby... Does this mean there's a chef of some sort in the game, or is this Kirby's special attack?

Kirby can't change much. He's just a ball of fluff. XD

Although... if Sonic IS in the game, a cool minigame would be a pinball level where you're either Sonic or Kirby! XD

Like I said, if a HUMAN controls the Ice Climbers, then they can be good. If the COMPUTER controls them; they can't beat me. :p
