When it comes to live-action TV shows, Law & Order is the longest running drama of all time, having been on the air for 16 years.

There's something about detectives and murder and mystery, because when it comes to anime, one show has more episodes and movies than any other. Despite populare belief, that show is not Dragonball/Z/GT.

That show is called...

Detective Conan (Case Closed in U.S.) has over 700+ episodes and is STILL ongoing in Japan. It also has several movies and TV specials and with DB/Z/GT only being just under 400, this one has it -- and everything else -- beaten.

Detective Conan is the story of a seventeen year old wonder student named Shinichi Kudou. Though only a high-school senior, Shinichi is the best detective in town; much better than the police (who often turn to him for help) and Kogorou Mouri, who is also a Private Detective and his best-friend, would-be-girlfriend's father. Kogorou hates Shinichi, but Mouri Ran, his daughter, is only a few kind words away from dating him.

Unfortunately, after solving a decapitation on a roller coaster which he and Ran happen to witness, Shinichi pokes his nose into the business of two men in black coats who call themselves "Gin" and "Vodka". They force him some new, experimental posion that's supposed to kill and make it seem natural on a toxicology report. Unfortunately that's not what happens. Shinichi wakes up... as a seven year old boy!

Now, using the name Edogawa Conan, he's living with Ran and her father, and using the inventions of his next door neighbor, a genius scientist, to help Kogouro solve crimes so that maybe he can get a lead on who gave him the drugs and find a antidote.

It's hilarious at times, and a VERY good mystery show. I like it. :D Except the story moves HORRIBLY SLOW -- 700+ episodes, and I'd say 680 of them are filler. ;_; Oh well!

XD OMG CONAN!

I always watched "Case Closed" when it was on Adult Swim, but I never had a chance to read the manga. *le sigh* I'll be sure to do that, though!

And to those who HAVEN'T discovered Detective Conan's greatness... It's GREAT! :D Serisouly, I love this show. I've never seen anything like it: Teenage Wonder turned Cute little kid! XP

Like GS said, it follows Conan living with Ran and her father, solving all of Mouri's mystery's for him (most of the time). ;D He also has a band of little pals! Conan's such a popular kid as school! XD

Ah, Detective Conan. I knew it was the longest running, but I had no idea it was THAT HUGE!! :o

Anywho, yes, it's great. I've seen every episode that they've shown on Adult Swim, and I also own the first manga compilation. I definitely think that everyone should give Conan a try! ^_^

Detective Conan is indeed fantastic, it is my very favorite anime show (and manga as well)!
This really seems like the longest anime show that there is. In addition to all of it's episodes, it has 18 (19?) openings and 24+ endings. As good as all of those openings may become real addictive, this is why I download them all! Too bad that Germany only use half the ammount of openings to not overdo it like they do in Japan, but they also remade all the opening songs with the exception of the first one.

This show has a very addictive story. It may be slow when having watched the show for a while, but each and every episode has a mystery to solve. You may get the mystery for the first couple of episodes, but further it is as good as impossible to solve them, you would have to watch the end of the episodes to get everything solved. At least for me, that is... :heh:

This is an anime that I can recommend to all of you. You do not have to be a crime lover to watch this. I suck at riddles myself, but I find the story itself so hilarious. Our poor "little" main character has to pretend that he is a kid, as he was shrunken into a kid's body, at the same time try to solve cases without revealing his true identity. The firm background music/soundtrack is also great from my opinion.

If you are bored, why hesitate? Give this anime a shot! XD

O_O

There's gonna be a live-action prequel something! (I can't figure out if it's gonna be a movie or a series, but I do know it takes place before the animated series)
