Edit2: I forgot to mention. If not the most popular anime, the manga version has it written that it is the most popular manga in Japan!

Alright, peeps! I have decided to start a short topic about my second favorite anime, which is called One Piece!

The story takes place in the era of pirates. The king of the pirates, Gold Roger, was for a long while ago executed. Right before his execution, he announced that he had hidden a treasure that would contain all wealth and fame that a pirate never would dream of, he was famous for having a very large treasure that nobody could find. This motivated dangerous pirates from all over the world to start their search on this legendary treasure.

Here I will give you a short intro start for you to look forward to:
Ruffy is the teenager in this anime who always dreamt of being a pirate and making his own pirate crew, as he kept dreaming about it since he was a young kid. He is extremely pathetic and unexperienced, totally acting like a young child. He is always in a grinding mood, well, barely always. Though, you do not want to make him angry!

By the first couple of episodes, he somehow manages to gather a crew, one member by one. The crew of his becomes dangerous in the start, as already the first member to *potentially* become a member of it is a bounty and pirate hunter, EXTREMELY dangerous and has a lot of sword skills. He is trapped inside a marine base, waiting for execution. To figure how everything works out, you will have to watch episode one and two.

Ruffy has no manners and, as I mentioned, acts totally like a young child. He is nice, though, and you will love him. However, if he is encountered by unfriendly and also dangerous people, the situation would normally be fatal. However, Ruffy is one of the few who ate a sort of the so called devil's fruit, the gum-gum fruit. His body is therefore made out of rubber and he may stretch and everything. This comes in handy in his battles! However, being made out of rubber, Ruffy cannot swim, and as his hobby in his young days was swimming, he had to give it up as he had a taste of that fruit.

This anime is something that I can recommend to all of you. Ruffy is very silly and the show contains a lot of humor, at least from my point of view. The story has an amazing feeling to it. Why hesitate in watching it? I doubt that you would regret it! :p

^_^ Sounds pretty interesting, DZ! I must admit, I was a little wierded out by one episode of this show I saw one time with old man/young woman hybrid-person... But, they did have one part that made me laugh in the little bit I saw:

Person 1: That beast attacks one minute and is friendly the next!
Person 2: Maybe it's a bipolar bear!

XD

I would most definitely give this show more than a second chance, now that I have someone's recommendation... but unfortunately, I don't have time to really watch anything. ^^; So, everyone else, give this show a chance! It sounds very interesting! ^_^

I though that It was Luffy not Ruffy!

Interesting note about the Japanese language. They do not have a real "L" sound in their language. The japanese interpretation of L's have them sound like R's. Depending on translation, names with L's or R's may end up being translated with the letter being either letter. This is similar to the Chinese language in this way, I believe (like the waiters at the Chinese restaurant in "A Christmas Story" singing "Fa-ra-ra-ra-ra...").

^ XD That reminds me of Avenue Q's show stopper, "The More you Ruv Someone" sung by the neighborhood's Asian American Theorpist. XD She'd said "Ruv" for "Love" and "Razy" for "lazy" (she uses both these examples in the same song XP)

ANYWAY, yesh, A Pirate story! Arg! I remember watching this every Saturday! But alas, I'm never watching TV on Sayuriday during that lineup. SO I haven't seen it since Chopper joined. A fried of mine is a fan, though... I'm not sure where he stands on the Pirates vs. Ninjas predicament. XD

Thoguh I thought EVERYONE who ate the baaaad fruit wasn't able to swim, not just Ruffy-Ruberman. Hm. I remember this one guy drowning in an episode. Teh crew saved him and it turns out he at a cursed fruit that makes him change appearences.

Yea, I'm pretty sure it's the fruit that does that. >.O I wouldn't know for sure, though. You seem to know more than me, ^DiZ. I'll take your word for it.

I though that It was Luffy not Ruffy!

L does not exist in the Japanese language, therefore I go with R, along with the German dub version. Along with Ruffy, I go with Zorro, Chopper, Nami, Sanji, etc.

Unless the One Piece creators said otherwise, whoever translating it to "Luffy" would do a bad job. x9

SN. Fox Kids translated One Piece.

... 'nuff said.

XD

I guarantee you the only reason they didn't screw up the names on Sonic X was because they had the actual games as a base. Not that they paid attention to the games and used those voice actors, but I digress. Fox has always changed named. Not a single character from Digimon had the right name in english. Takeru was "TK", Daisuke was Davis... they always change stuff.

I've not seen One Piece, but I hear it's pretty good, and I know better than to judge anything by the American version. Since DZ says it's good, I'll watch it. :3 I suppose it's on YouTube? Maybe?

I remeber One Piece. I really liked the idea for the show, and the theme song is pretty catchy! I really need to watch the show again ^__^

Well, I wouldn't flat out say that L doesn't exist in the Japanese language. The Alphabet is seldom used in Japanese, so technically, when it actually comes down to the language, none of the letters of the alphabet exist. Anywho, L and R are interchangeable, so it's not incorrect to use either sound. Both Luffy and Ruffy would be accurate translations, technically.

Well, this guy knows what he's talking about, so I'll believe him. XD

Me? I don't speak Japanese and I've never been to Japan. >_> But I would like to visit Japan when I can afford it! :D Hmm... maybe I should learn Japanese first?

... Naw. I'll just wing it!

But seriously, I never watched One Piece, but if it's good...?

Man, I have to admit... ever since Funimation took over from 4Kids, the show has really changed. I used to hate this show, but now... I think I might be starting to like it.

Could it be that 4Kids really sucks THAT badly? That they can make a good show seem like an awful abomination? O_o

Yep.

I've been casually watching ever since they started with the new Funimation episodes, and have enjoyed the show. (and I also have read a few chapters of the manga a little while ago, and was entertained by it then, as well). The series isn't entirely to my tastes, but it's fun to watch (compared to the old english version, which was impossible to listen to).
