Title: Whats with the bashing?
Description: Not here, but elsewhere...

I gotta hear your thoughts on this.
Why is Sonic bashed everywhere these days? Even the so-called #1 "fansite" in the world is filled with people that constantly insult everything about the series these days.
You hear em complain about Shadow being emo all the time. Whats the deal there? Shad is not emo anymore! I mean, he came close to it in his game and Heroes, but who wouldn't be depressed if they lost all their memories except for one, and that one was someone getting murdered in cold blood right in front of em? Besides, he's back to his old, cocky, SA2 self these days! And the guns... Everybody complained about his guns... In my opinion, as long as they don't give Sonic himself a Remington, then its fine. The only thing that bugged me was the cussing... Aside from that, though, Shadow, both the game and the character, do not deserve the beatings they get from the media.
And then, they went all out on Sonic '06. I've played this game so much, and I have yet to run into the so-called "glaring gameplay issues" everybody else seems to have. Yes, the load times were quite lame, but thats it. The gameplay is great. I haven't encountered a single one of the glitches that all these reviewers and "fans" found.
The only game that deserves any of what it got from these so-called fans is Sonic Genesis, but lets not get into that one... u_u
My point here is this: People just need to shut up and enjoy the games!
Alrighty, rant over... Hope it made sense, and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this.
Hope it doesn't sound too retarded.

Eh.
Now in days anybody with an internet connection can make a game review. And everybody has different opinions on the games. So the people who dislike games, rather than try to use intelligence to explain why they dislike it, they just rant and rave and spew crap. :/
So there's a lot of people sayings "This game is too dumb" or "____ sucks and is too ____".
That's the reason so many people are complaining -- because they can. XD
But... I'll tell you this much... there's no bashing here on SRB, so there IS a place on the web free from this. :3

I know. Thats a big reason I signed up here! This place is the best Sonic site on the net, as far as I'm concerned.

I am quite opinionated, and while I do admit that in many ways I do prefer the older games sometimes... because I think in some ways they are a bit better, I still do like the newer games. I have a few complaints about some of the newer games, but I won't ever go into the bashing that some people go into. Heck, I had a BLAST in Shadow the Hedgehog! When I played it, I couldn't believe so many people hated it! And I could never understand why people hated Sonic Heroes when it first came out. Going back to Shadow the Hedgehog, my only gripe with that is the use of the 4Kids voices... though that's not really the fault of the game itself, really. *sigh* I can't wait for the day they finally replace those awful voices. I mean, no offense to Sonic X fans, (hey, I like that anime, too) but Sonic X and SegaSonic don't need to be intertwined in that manner. Actually, just like in Japan, the way it SHOULD have been is that they should have taken the actors from the games and had them voice the characters in Sonic X... not cast new (and worse) actors for Sonic X and then have THEM replace the cast of the games. But... I digress from that point, as I think I should regard it a different debate altogether.
Anywho, my point is that I really like Sonic Heroes. I love Shadow the Hedgehog. Sonic Riders isn't a bad game. Other than the voices, I really have no gripes with those games. I haven't played much of Sonic 2006, though... from what I have played, the controls are a little wonky. I'll admit that it takes some getting used to trying to control Sonic without accidentally going off cliffs, since the joystick seems to be a little too sensitive, but I do think people tend to exaggerate this flaw... you can get around it with just a little bit of time. And I don't care much for Eggman's new look, but thankfully it's only temporary (for this game only) and while the downside is that Eggman looks too... pretty, so to speak, the upside is the rest of the graphics. Beautiful! All the people look so detailed! Almost like right out of a Square Enix game! And Rouge has never looked better, for some reason... I dunno, she looks really good in this game... at least I think. ^_^; *cough* So, while I do have a gripe or two with Sonic 2006, it seems like it could be really fun from what tiny little bit I've played.
And I've played a bit (more than Sonic 2006) of Sonic and the Secret Rings. This game is awesome! It's amazing! The spirit of the game kinda reminds me of the classic games, and Eggman's back to his old cartoony-looking self again!
So, all in all, I can understand that there's a few downsides to the newer games, but I do think that most people tend to exaggerate these downsides the to point of saying "Sonic sucks nowadays". Ya, there's a few flaws here and there... but Sonic is still alive and kicking. Nothing can keep down the world's most superfast, hyperactive, fun-loving Hedgehog. Even if the "fandom" turns their back on him, Sonic will overcome... afterall... if his games really aren't worth playing... why do they keep selling so well? ;)

Oh my... You read my mind.
Yeah, I was suprised to see the scores that Heroes and Shadow got. I'm still playing Heroes and having a blast with it.
And as I said about Shadow's game, and you pretty much echoed my thoughts in your post, the game is really fun. I've found like one glitch in the entire game, and thats on the somehow inferior PS2 version. As for the voices... I do like Griffith's take on Shad... Can't say I'm a fan of him as Sonic, though. For me, Sonic should be voiced by either Drummond or Jaleel White. Yes. I want Urkel doing Sonic's voice again!
As for the 4Kids connection... As long as Chris NEVER shows up in a game, I'm happy.
And Riders is a blast to play too. Its gave me alot of great moments I can look back on and say "Dang! That was wild!"
I never had alot of joystick problems with '06. It was a little hard getting used to the new homing attack, though.
And I haven't played Secret Rings... Heck, I've never touched a Wii before in my life, but from what I've heard, its REALLY good.
And as for oldschool vs. newschool... My favorite Sonic memories are with my very first game ever, Sonic 2, so I gotta say I like the oldschool a little bit better. Still, I love breaking out in homing attack rampages...

If that ever happened, I'd cry with joy. Seriously, even when I'm reading fanfics that are based on the newer version of Sonic, I still hear White's voice in my mind. :hs:
As for the 4Kids voices, ya... I can't say I really mind Shadow's voice. Sonic's voice I'm a little indifferent to, but I would prefer Drummond (though White would be awesome!). Eggman's voice is okay, but it could be better. I'm not too fond of Tails' voice, but I can tolerate it. There's really just 4 voices that I can truthfully say I can't stand: Amy's voice makes me cry acid, Rouge's voice makes my ears bleed, Vector's voice makes it seem like a thousand needles are jabbing at my heart, and Cream's voice is like ALL OF THOSE COMBINED... and also my head exploding.
So, ya... some of the voices I either don't mind, or only slightly dislike... but I hate... HATE the voices of Amy, Rouge, Vector, and Cream. Seriously.
Avenger29 - March 4, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
I think of Vector's current voice, and I think of just one thing...
FIND THE COMPUTER ROOM!
But yeah, White as Sonic again would be amazing. I do the same thing when I read the comics and stuff.
For Tails... I like Palent's take on him. I never liked how Bringas did his voice.
And for Knuckles... The best voice he's had is either his SA1 voice, or his voice from the movie. I think I'm the only one who liked his voice in that, actually...
Clown Prince of Crime - March 4, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
I didn't mind his somewhat "higher pitched than most people are used to" voice in the movie, but that's only because that was the first time I ever heard Knuckles have a voice. XD
Though it's interesting to note that in the Japanese version of that, he did have a deep voice.
As for Vector's current voice...

That might be why I don't like the gruff sounding Knuckles, because that calm, higher pitched voice is what I got used to.
Heh, now I have to watch that movie tonight.
Nice find, by the way. Gotta love YTMNDs.
