Title: Shadow's Age...
Description: Hmm
Master Pogi - April 3, 2007 01:32 AM (GMT)
I've been pondering this for a while, ever since Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and in Sonic Heros. If you take a look in the Sonic Heros booklet, you'll see the ages of all the characters, accept Omega and Shadow. Well, I've come to the conclusion that he's about 50 or something, since in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle they kept saying the ARK was made over 50 years ago. On the other hand, Shadow or anybody else never mentioned when exactly he was created. Some Sonic fansites says he's 15, like Sonic. Others say it's unknown, which is a waste of time :heh:. Does anybody know how old Shadow is? :Shadow:
tailsonic15 - April 3, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
shadow is around 55 bacause he was introduced when he was 50 and its been around 5 years since he was introduced.
Avenger29 - April 3, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
Well, Shadow is really ageless and immortal, but technically, yeah, he's around 55.
GoldenSama - April 3, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
-Spoilers-
Well... It's vague on how long he existed in ARK with Gerald and Maria before the GUN incident, but however long he was in ARK, plus however long since SA2 would be his technical age.
Now he's got an apperance of about fifteen, like Sonic... but then again, he's existed for over fifty years... still... one has to wonder if the time he spent frozen in GUN's prison counts as "Aging", since he wasn't concious.
Then again, he is immortal. Thus, age doesn't really matter to him at all.

:o Now that's a good way to put it. Never really thought of it like that.
Thanks for the input guys. ^___^

Happy to help my friend! ^_^
AGodofIrony - April 3, 2007 03:40 AM (GMT)
Ooh! Ooh! In the Shadow the Hedgehog booklet...If I remember correctly...Shadow had been awake and about on the ARK for roughly a week.
And not counting in the time he spent asleep in cold storage, you could argue the fact Shadow's about a year old.
tailsonic15 - April 3, 2007 03:56 AM (GMT)
Shadow's a year old?! OMGWTFBBQ!
I overeacted. But I can argue about that Shadow wasn't always asleep. Shadow must have lived with Maria before he was put asleep. he could be 3,4, even 10.
GoldenSama - April 3, 2007 04:45 AM (GMT)
Well... AGOI just said that in the booklet it said Shadow was on the ARK for only a week.
However... booklets are VERY unreliable. In the Sonic CD booklet, it called Amy "Princess Sally". >_>
It would be nice if Sonic Team would release something official... but, you know, it probably won't happen.
But remember... Shadow is NOT a naturally born creature. He's genetically and biologically engineered... and he's got an alien's DNA... plus all the Chaos Emerald exposure... it's hard to say if the aging process would even be the same.
AGodofIrony - April 3, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
True, true. Shadow is The Ultimate Life Form. It's possible he'd live for thousands of years without aging.
I suppose I always see him as sorta ageless myself.
GoldenSama - April 3, 2007 05:18 AM (GMT)
Well, he never had a childhood.
He was created at the same age he is throughout the games. Therefore, one would assume age isn't a factor t him.
Now it is possible that he can grow older... we wouldn't know, as so far the only character to actually age is Amy. Well, Eggman became younger... but that doesn't count.
Anyway... yeah, it's possible Shadow will age, or it's possible he'll remain at the same age forever.
Avenger29 - April 3, 2007 05:51 AM (GMT)
About his birth...
He had to have been awake on the ARK for longer than a week. You don't just grow attached to someone as much as he was to Maria in just a week. Least thats how I see it.
Like I said above, I've heard from ALOT of places that Shadow is an ageless immortal. This makes sense since Prof. Gerald was researching immortality.
Come to think of it... Does Sonic ever really age? I mean, I know he's stated as being 15 but... Aside from height differences, you really can't tell that he's aged since SA1.
GoldenSama - April 3, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
That might just be because we have no time frame for when the games are set. While it may seem improbable that Eggman can rebuild his robot armies THAT many times in less than a year, it also seems improbable that he could even survive some of the explosions when Sonic beats him, so... yeah.
Video games don't always have to make sense.
So it's possible that all of these things happened in the course of the same year, or at least the same couple of years.

Actually, as far as continuity goes, that wasn't Amy aging so much as Sega retconning Amy's age so as to have her closer to Sonic's age.
Speaking of Amy... haha, Princess Sally. XD That was Sega of America's doing... because the Archie Comics and SatAM were so popular at the time, they wanted the games to represent what Sonic was popular in at the time. It's no different from how currently SOA had hired the 4Kids actors to voice the characters in the games. Silly Sega of America... when will you learn?
As for Shadow's age... the conclusive answer is that nobody knows for certain how old he is. In the long run, however, it may not matter... being the Ultimate Lifeform, he doesn't age.
tailsonic15 - April 3, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
Maybe because he is connected to the emeralds through chaos energy, maybe he will live as long as the chaos emeralds don't shatter...
Just a thought...
GoldenSama - April 3, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
Well, I think if the Chaos Emeralds were somehow destroyed, he'd still be alive, but he wouldn't be able to conduct his chaos powers.
Knuckles is connected to the Master Emerald even more than Shadow is to the Chaos Emeralds, and the Master Emerald shatters all the time, so I doubt the Emeralds are tied to their lives. Yes, emeralds can bring them back to life, but I think it's more because of Gerald's experiments.
Aww, who knows? All that really matters is how awesome Shadow is.

FINALLY! SOMEONE ELSE ON TEH INTRAWEBS WHO DOESN'T HATE SHADOW!
AGodofIrony - April 4, 2007 07:53 AM (GMT)
All of here like Shadow. The only characters we mock our Antonie (Though him in sort of a friendly way), Chris, and Mammoth Mogul.
Oddly enough, Big and Omochao are barely mocked, though I do like Big myself.
Off topic this...back on topic.
Shadow is Shadow. Whether he's a day old or fifty years old, he's basically the same.
AmySonikku - April 4, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
Well I would say that Shadow is 55-56 because he was awake for who knows how long in the Ark. I doubt is was a whole year but still lets give it a shot. And since he was sleeping for 50 years. And then he woke up again for about a week of so. And then after SA2 he died again for who knows how long and then came back something years later for Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic The Hedgehog. And in Sonic The Hedgehog, Shadow looks taller and everone suppositly aged so thats another 2-5 years.
Clown Prince of Crime - April 4, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Well, I can give ya the benefit on the doubt on everything except after SA2... cuz after that time, it can't be years... at least not in the sense that anybody ages, since Sonic continues to be 15, Amy continues to be 12, Tails continues to be 8, etc. Though, I do find it interesting that Rouge aged by a year... she's now 18 instead of 17. So maybe time does pass in the Sonicverse, but just really, REALLY slowly? Whatever the case may be, as far as aging goes, at least, it hasn't been years since SA2.
As far as things go with Sonic 2006, it's not that anybody aged, it's that the style was different (take a look at Eggman, for example). I mean, everyone went back to looking the same as before when The Secret Rings came by, so it was just the style. Besides, even if they had all aged, it wouldn't change Shadow's appearance. All those gag 4-Koma of him as a baby aren't canonical (though they are hilarious), since we can clearly see in Shadow the Hedgehog that when he was created, he was already fully grown.
The way the Sonicverse is, is a lot like many other universes out there that feature animated characters. While I know not all of them are like this, MOST animated character universes seem to follow this... characters don't get older as time passes. It's that way with The Simpsons (otherwise, Bart would have graduated from college by now), Case Closed/Detective Conan (I could make a joke here... if I were more creative), and Pokemon (Before CR gets on my case about this one, the Japanese creators of the show DID state that Ash is still 10 years old even in the Diamond and Pearl anime... but that doesn't mean you can't change his age in an RP, right? ;)).
So, what's my point? My point is that we can speculate about Shadow's age up until the point of his appearance in SA2... after that, we can't add anything, though, as the other characters (save for Rouge, but my theory on that is that she was probably almost 18, anyway) remain the same ages.
Regardless, no matter how old Shadow gets, I think he'll always look the same, though I believe I've already said that. :p

Hmm, seeing as how they don't age plus Shadow's immortal...
50 (since the Space Colony Ark accident) + even if they don't age, there's probably different months and everything, like how in Sonic X he came back later on when they were fighting the Metarex. And that was 6 months later in Sonic's world, 6 years in Chris'. So which of these should we go by?
If we go by Earth's timeline, Shadow should be about maaaybe 57 years old.
The Mobian timeline, Shadow's probably about 51 years old. *shrugs*

I dont Hate Shadow too XD...I think he's Something that the Creators of Sonic Made to Finaly make a "Radical Styled" Sonic :p but I dont Like His Game Because its a Bit Stupid <.< because of the Guns...Being on Topic...Since everyone said more about the Things of SC ARK I Think he's more than 50 something...because Before the Space Colony Ark was Shut Down he was Born...So he might have 62...maybe I dont know ^_^

And now we're getting into different continuities... which further complicates things. XD
Originally, we were just discussing the games. Sonic X is a completely different continuity, so I'm certain that it's safe to say that the same rules need not apply in that one. And since you mentioned Mobius, then I'll say that (perhaps more-so here) the same rules need not apply to the Archie Comics.
So, everything I've said before was pertaining just to the game version of Shadow... which can be a bit confusing as it is... all other versions of Shadow are going to be a whole lot trickier, so I'm not sure I can do well to theorize on them. XD
GoldenSama - April 5, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
I doubt Shadow was awake very long on ARK... my reasoning is this: GUN killed Gerald because of his work on ARK, yeah? Shadow WAS that work... so it seems weird that he'd be on ARK for a real long time before GUN found out and shut things down...
plus, Maria always appears the same age in his memories... but, as we mentioned, nobody seems to age. XD
zephergirl - May 8, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
tecnecally shadows around 50 or so... but thats the original shadow. he does look about sonics age but does that really matter? hes immortle and the ultimate life form so he cant die by age.
Jase1505 - July 3, 2007 11:04 AM (GMT)
Shadow could be over a million years old!
I mean, it's possible HE made the dinosaurs extinct by getting pissed off and unleashing a Chaos Armageddon.
Of course, there are other theories as to how the dinosaurs were killed off... :SuperAmy:
Meh, I'm going with 55 years old.
Knuckles Fan - August 3, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
He's not 55 he's 50 or 51.
Notice how Sonic's been out for 15 years, yet he hasn't aged? It goes for Shadow aswell.
Sonic would be 30 then, which would sound a bit weird...
GoldenSama - August 3, 2007 05:00 AM (GMT)
TRUE! Cartoon Characters don't age.
Hence the reason Bart isn't 19.
So, in truth, it doesn't matter. :3
tailsonic15 - August 3, 2007 05:49 AM (GMT)
Gah! Some.....sort.....of.....logic!!!
Locky458 - August 16, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
I'd say about 50 because the real Shadow died long ago, right? So there might be evadience (sp) that you're playing with the Fake Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Shadow the Hedgehog... The whole Shadow story has much to stories, teasers, spin off's, and to much confusion to it. It's not like he could die and come back to life because they lost the real Shadow's body, right?
I'm not really sure with Sonic Hereos.. It's just my opinion..
tailsonic15 - August 20, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
The Shadow in Shadow the hedgehog, depending on what you did, may or may not have been an android. In Sonic Heroes, that Shadow was indeed a robot.
Clown Prince of Crime - August 20, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
Well, there were multiple endings in STH, but after you unlock all of them, you get one more ending (which is considered to be the true ending) and there you see that it actually was the real Shadow.
Though, yes, the Shadow in Sonic Heroes was just an android... as seen in STH, Eggman made thousands of Shadow Androids.
Avenger29 - August 21, 2007 08:34 AM (GMT)
Wait, wait. "Heroes" Shad was a robot one? I thought he was the real one too!
tailsonic15 - August 21, 2007 10:08 AM (GMT)
I think Rouge said Shadow was a robot. And I also think when Eggman said "You have no past!", he meant it.
Avenger29 - August 21, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
I figured she just believed that because Shadow's amnesia and the fact that no one knew how he stayed alive.
Clown Prince of Crime - August 21, 2007 11:13 PM (GMT)
Also, you should notice that at the start of the game, Omega attacks Shadow while shouting, "Must eliminate all Eggman robots!"
Avenger29 - August 22, 2007 02:51 AM (GMT)
Ah, noted.
I never paid attention to Omega, though.
So... Wait. How is it in future games (Next, Shadow) that Omega knows him, and viseversa?
tailsonic15 - August 22, 2007 01:29 PM (GMT)
Well, maybe it's the pattern (i.e stripes, color...), or maybe omega can scan people to see if they are robots.
Avenger29 - August 22, 2007 10:17 PM (GMT)
Ok, that explains Omega, but what about Shadow knowing him?
Clown Prince of Crime - August 22, 2007 11:40 PM (GMT)
*scratches head* I don't remember Shadow ever stating familiarity when he first saw Omega in STH... though I do know Omega recognized Shadow, I'm not sure if Shadow said anything to that effect.
