The Newest Threat)

Rain was falling down in thick sheets. There was a abandoned mansion in the middle of the forest. This mansion was once the laboratory of Freya, the ninja woman who had created the hybrid of human and biju chakra. Freya had vanished since her reunion with her son and Kisuke. Now there was a young man of about sixteen standing outside the door of that mansion.

His hair was long and black and as the rain splattered down against him it stuck to his face. He was dressed in blue and black clothing with a silver design on the back of his jacket. This man was watching the mansion without moving an inch. Neither the chill of the wind nor the rain managed to make move a inch.

“Hey boss,” A voice called out from behind him. The man with long black hair looked over his shoulder and he saw a younger girl with blond hair lying loose and covering both of her eyes. She wore a jacket almost identical to his. She had her arms crossed and was frowning. “This place is a dump. Why'd we have to come here?”

“Manako, just as you insist on letting your hair cover your eyes, so are you blind to the truth in front of you.”

Manako giggled. “You're always talking like a poet or something.”

The black haired ninja stepped towards his younger companion and swept the dripping hair from out of her face, revealing her ocean-blue eyes. “I speak because I am enlightened. There are truths that many have died to protect, and these truths I have learned. It is only in death that we attain true wisdom.”

Manako frowned once more. “Boss . . . I wish you wouldn't say stuff like that. It's depressing.”

The black haired ninja offered a reassuring smile. “I apologize, Manako-chan. Let us continue on. I'll try not to speak in too many riddles.”

Manako grinned at him, but the black haired ninja turned away and headed into the abandoned mansion of Freya. He took three steps inside before he paused. Manako quickly bounced after him with a skip in her step, but as she came he turned around and pushed her to the ground. As he did, a large explosion rang out above the two . . . right where their heads would have been if they had remained standing.

“Ah, boss . . .” Manako seemed to be blushing. The black haired ninja seemed not to notice.

“That is why your eyes must always be uncovered.” The black haired ninja responded in a stern, but friendly voice. Manako bit her cheek and turned away, muttering something beneath her breathe.

“Hmm . . . I suppose you are correct.” The black haired ninja must have heard what she'd mumbled. She gasped and dropped her gaze.

“Sorry boss, I didn't mean ta --”

“No. You are indeed correct. It is easy for me to escape from danger . . . I merely scold you because I do not wish to see you die.”

Manako rubbed the back of her neck. “I'm really sorry boss.”

“Don't be.” The black haired ninja smiled at her once more. He seemed like a really good person. He stood up and looked around the mansion. “This place . . . so many evil things existed here.”

“What happened?” Manako asked, her curiosity suddenly magnified.

“Ahh . . . Freya was a brilliant ninja. She could have become Kage if she'd applied herself. However, she was born with a special bloodline . . . the Mako Bloodline. She has the ability to nullify the effects of chakra. Controlling it and shaping it as she wills. With that, even a Biju would be at a disadvantage against her.”

“Sounds like she was tough, eh boss?” Manako looked around.

“Oh yes . . . but then she fell in love with a man called Kisuke Otogani. They had a child, who they named Otomaru . . . but Otomaru was born without properly working chakra coils. His chakra would eventually build up inside him . . . by age one, he would have exploded.”

“Sick!” Manako covered her ears. “I didn't need to hear that, boss!”

“Hahah . . . it never ceased to amaze me, Manako-chan . . . you can fight better than most ninja twice your age, yet you still can't stand blood, can you?”

Manako crossed her arms. “It's gross . . .”

“What about when you first meet me? I was covered in quite a lot of blood, that day.” The black haired ninja remembered.

“Boss . . . that was different . . . you needed my help.” Manako seemed uneasy remembering this particular event. The black haired ninja sensed this, and returned to the original subject.

“To save her son, Freya infused in him the Eight-Tailed Serpent. However, after it fixed his chakra coils, it took him over. He became violent. To top off her frustration, Kisuke hated the fact she had cursed her son with a Biju, and she became so angry at his hatred that she left him. She learned that if her son aged any more, his problems would return and he'd die anyway. So she used her power over chakra to stop his aging when he was ten.”

Manako's blue eyes got wide. “She made him, like, immortal or something?”

“No. She merely stopped his body from aging. He still got older, and he would still die eventually.” The black haired ninja corrected his companion. “She eventually learned that his problems was due in large part to the Eight-Tailed Snake. It had repaired him, but it was also killing him. The only way to safely remove the biju without killing him was to develop a new way to do so. She decided to make a hybrid . . . a ninja who produced biju chakra naturally. She knew with that chakra, she could safely remove the biju.”

“And THAT's why we're here! To find that hybrid and get it's chakra so we can fix you!” Manako grinned.

“. . . Something like that.” The black haired ninja looked across the room. There was not much left, but there was a desk with a book. He flipped it open and read in silence. Manako crossed her arms and leaned against the wall.

“Ah . . . I see. She used the chakra of the Nine Tailed Fox . . . her hybrid experiments, she used the children of the Hokage. Misaki and Musashi. Though it appears her experiment was a failure... Misaki and Musashi, according to her notes, can only tap into their biju side when in mortal danger, or during a extremely emotional moment.”

“And that means?” Manako asked.

“It means . . . we must find the children of Uzumaki Naruto. We need their chakra coils, if we're to ever achieve our goal.” The black haired ninja sighed.

“Then . . . we gotta kill them, huh?” Manako asked again, her voice and expression remaining the same.

“. . . Yes. We have to kill them.” The black haired ninja ran a hand through his hair and looked back at Manako. “I apologize . . .”

“Don't. I told ya, boss, I'd fix you! I promised. I even wiped up your blood for you, and I hate blood. I'll make ya all better.” Manako smiled sweetly, even though she was talking about cold blooded murder.

“Thank you, Manako-chan.” The black haired ninja smiled back at his companion. “After them, only one more person needs to die, and we can finally be at peace.”

“Yeah! And don't worry, boss, we'll get him too!” Manako grinned.

“Manako-chan, I've told you many times before . . . when the day comes to kill my father, you cannot help me.” The black haired ninja shook his head.

“Aww, but I hafta!” Manako argued.

“No. . .” The black haired ninja was completely serious. “Killing Uchiha Itachi is far too dangerous for you to help.”

Konohagakure no Sato: Hokage's Mansion

Uchiha Nanami leaned against a wall. She had changed out of her ANBU Uniform and into, of all things, a pink kimono. It had not been her idea to do so, but Sakura had 'suggested' it. Of course, it was more of a demand and less of a suggestion.

She was happy. For the first time since her brother died to protect her from her father, she was truly happy.

And she was waiting for the party to begin . . . completely unaware that The Newest Threat would soon be coming to Konoha.

I swear Eye-girl is familiar to me somehow (as is the guy, but I think I can figure him out), but I don't know how... Would it be detrimental to your story if you could tell if you based her on someone or someones, and if so, who?

GoldenSama - April 24, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
Actually I didn't really base Manako on anyone. I mean, there probably IS characters similiar to her in various anime or games.
